An uncharted shoal in the middle of the channel was discovered approximately 465 yards NE of State Boat Ch Dbn 25 (LLNR 31065). An uncharted
shoal running in a general north east direction into the channel approximately 5 yds east of State Boat Channel Buoy 76 (LLNR 31436). All mariners
are advised to use caution and exercise prudent seamanship while transiting the area.NY-SHINNECOCK BAY TO EAST ROCKAWAY INLET-STATE BOAT CHANNEL-HAZARDS TO NAVIGATION

This is the second red buoy west of the Captree Draw Bridge, where you make the northwest dogleg that puts you close to shore. An already tight spot that just got tighter.

I travel this area often, but my first time in 2002 with my SR 280 DA I did not see the dog leg Red 76 north and kissed bottom going slow. After passing GN 75 I headed for Red 76A closer to the bridge. I am sure others have done the same.

Below is the area for further information. Remember it is Red on your starboard side going east and Port going west. Don’t miss the dog leg!!

Who knows what it will look like this year. Maybe a quick dredge is in order?

That spot has been getting shallower for a while and you could tell the bar was gradually spreading that way. I guess we'll see how bad in the spring. Thanks for the heads up.
 
I think it's faster to go under RM bridge and go through the west channel than to go through this area.
It's too slow and when green flies are biting, its bad. This assumes you are coming from North Channel and heading out fire island inlet or to sore thumb.

I just need to figure out Dickerson's Channel and I will really save some time!
 
I mostly take that way when I have guests and want a slower ride. The guests seem to love passing the fishing docks and the fishing boats. Also, the wife likes it as a change of pace, but it is a little slow for me, but sometimes we all need to savor the boating moments. I have not found the green flies that bad over there. But do get nailed from time to time. The state channel by Lindenhurst cut is another story… Ouch!!
 
That notice was from LNM 39/05. That is it was reported in the 39th week of 2005. Don't know if it is still valid.
 
Although it may have been posted 39/05, it is still a valid warning and caution should take precedence. I went through in early October 07 and you need to go uncomfortably close to shore to make the swing around that buoy Red # 76. I think is would cause a problem if two boats had to pass each other at that point of the turn. Even mid to high tide you can see the sand. If it shoals any closer to shore it will close the channel.
 
I cut and pasted that warning from he latest LNM so it is still valid.
