We either put them up on the hard, high up, or run up North of the Saltwater Barrier.
However, up North of the barrier, we have to watch out for trees. Freshwater areas
around her have so many trees. They can damage the boat if they fall or be sure the
trees you tie off to are solid and high up on land. Trees close to the edge of the
water line can fall easier than trees farther inland.
Floating docks are good, if they don't rise up above the tops of the pilings. Or if
they don't have wooden pilings. Be sure to tie every cleat on the boat to every cleat
on the docks. You can't have too many lines.
And remove all loose objects, all electronics, important documents, valuables and all canvas.
Leave the canvas on and you might not have any left when you get back.
Be sure all your batteries are charged good and all bilge pumps work good. Keep any
12 vdc equip. that is not needed turned off so to not run the batteries down if elect.
gets knocked out.
Check openings to make sure they are watertight so no rain water can get into the bilge.
Shut off fuel valves and thru hull valves. Use chafe protection on all lines where they
rub on the hull.
Video or take pictures of everything so if there is any damage or sinking, you have proof
of what was in or on the boat and also what you did to prevent damage. Insurance is some
times a beetch to deal with.
If you are not at a floating dock, tie the lines
up high on the pilings, lots of lines and leave
plenty of slack but not enough for the boat to
hit the pilings.
