My boat is still getting worked on but near completion. I'm looking forward to planning the first trip of the season.

Where will your first trip this season be? When? Will you do an overnighter or just a day trip? So much to see. So little time.

my first trip of the New Year was Discovery Bay to Pier 39, 3 weeks ago. Averaged about 20knots and made it in 4 hours. Wind was absolutely calm, but it was a lot cooler than it has been lately.

Palm Beach to Jacksonville on the ICW the last week of February. First trip in the new boat.

Wow. Disco bay to P39. That is quite a long trip. My longest trip was from Martinez to Sacramento.

I think first trip will be to Sausalito. There arent any guest docks at Sausalito Yacht Harbor however. I will find a way to make it work.

I would think Martinez to Sacramento would be about the same distance as DB to SF

First cruise of the year.
Last weekend we wanted to take advantage of the gorgeous sunny weather that we are currently having. We left Sausalito, we crossed the Bay and docked at San Francisco for lunch. The water was very calm with no wind and the temperature was around 70 degrees. After lunch, we took a nice walk along the Embarcadero, future site of the America's Cup. Late in the afternoon we took off and went back to our marina in Sausalito where we had dinner at the Sausalito Yacht Club. After dinner, a short walk to "Taste of Rome" for some coffee, dessert and music. On Sunday morning we took the boat to Angel Island for a picnic lunch. It couldn't have been a better weekend. Hopefully, this is a good sign for the forthcoming cruising season.

Mine will be to the fuel dock, then to a proctologist to remove the pain.

Nice pix. Is it required that one dock bow in?

Our first day trip of the year was on the first day of the year!

From Disco Bay to the Frozen Bun Run...

For our 2 to 3 night trips, we like to overnight at Pier 39, Angel Island, Alameda, etc...

We'll spend single night trips at Tinsley, Tower park, Village West, etc... which make for a nice last minute overnighter...

With the exception of Mildred and Mandeville Tip, we rarely overnight on the hook anymore.

20 years ago, you'd never find us at a marina for the night! We'd always be on the hook somewhere. Heck, anywhere!

Times change...

In Pier 39 now. Will miss those nights on the hook in Mildred. Is there a better sunset anywhere?

No, but it is customary. I think it allows for more privacy while onboard. Almost all docks are of the floating variety.

BayAreaBoater: sounds like you're saying you can stay docked overnight at Angel Island. Is that true? I had heard you have to tie up to the mooring balls for an overnight stay.

troman - I don't think he said anything about staying on dock at Angel Isl.
From what I've read, you have to moor overnight and I'm looking forward to it.
How long would your trip be from HMB to Angel Isl?

getakey: yes I guess I misunderstood what he said about overnighting on the hook.

I think I'd be looking at a couple of hours to get to Angel Island from HMB, but I haven't yet gained the confidence to make that trip. Instead I've been trailering over the hill to launch in the bay. From the bay side, there are alot of great destinations, and I use alot less gas!
