Whats with Marinetek?

I have a Marinetek Maxim, which came with the boat. I really like the unit, but it is losing the signal periodically and I can't track down the problem. I would like to just buy a new unit and/or transducer, but have only found one place that sells them, and they hardly give any info. Whats the story? Why doesn't anybody else carry Marinetek? Even the Marinetek website has hardly any info. It seems like a classic product, but with back-alley sales and support. Anyone with any feelings about them? Should I just switch products if I can't fix problem?
