I forgot where the high scenic cliffs begin on the NJ side of the Hudson? Headed North from Liberty Island, I think it's before the GW Bridge? About how far?

I think you are talking North of the GW to some place south of Piermont. If you stop there, you miss out on West Point and other very scenic locales.
When in doubt, google it out. Either that or use the live.net site.

The Palisades run from south of the GW to Hook Mountain.

Mike don't the rock cliffs start north of the bridge? South of that I thought it was mostly apt. buildings etc..

I checked Google Earth & it looks as if it starts right about at the GW. Thanks that was a good idea as they have the visual photos

They go from GW to just below the TZ then pick up for a little bit north of the TZ to Haverstraw. However, if you want scenery, make the trip to Newburgh. When you make the turn at Peekskill bay, you will be amazed by the Hudson highlands .

Ever hear of Cliffside Park? It's south of the GW a few Miles.

Sure there are buildings along the river's edge but behind them are the palisades and on top is Cliffside.

Agreed. But for natural scenic appeal, I'm thinking it's north of the GW.

There are cliffs that go all the way down to Jersey City. But the visually appealing cliffs on the shoreline start right north of the GWB.

It's really nice in the fall when the leaves change. I take my boat from Jersey City to Stony Point for winter storage in October. It's a beautiful ride.

I agree. I think the ride up the Hudson River is the most scenic & visually enjoyable we can take? I've done it many times & it never get's boring. Pure pleasure with every mile. I even like it better then going up the coast.

Indeed but coming in from the sound is pretty slick also. NYC Skyline etc..

I've done the Sound only up to Port Jefferson but it was a ride of avoiding Lobster Traps & looking at water, water & more water for a few hours. Boring. Maybe further by Mystic, RI or the Vinyard will be more interesting?

We've cruised the East Coast pretty thoroughly now from the Keys to southern Mass. Our cruising resume also includes most of the Pacific coast of the US (including the San Juan and Canadian Gulf Islands) as well the Canadian Maritimes and western Florida. Our side trip up the Hudson to Kingston has to rank near or at the top of the list of all time spectacular scenery.

Any boater with the means, time and access owes it to themselves to make the trip.

George
