I am on my way to try for some of those funny looking flat fish called hallibut this weekend and can't find a good place to launch my boat. Anyone have any suggestions? Also any suggestions on fishing spots would be appreciated as well.

I have a 23' Wellcraft Walkaround so it's not that big of a boat but I have bottomed her out once in the delta already. Costly mistake.

Thanks,
John

PS. JenMarie is the boat's name

John, welcome to the forum! Sorry no one got back to you yet.....I guess everyone is on their boat and not reading the forum. I've never gone halibut fishing, but I've heard of folks launching at Martinez to fish in the bay.

Sorry you had an unfortunate incident in the delta! There is plenty of deep water. you need a chart and a depth/fishfinder to navigate around safely until you get familiar. Stay in the channels and you'll be ok!

I assumed that many would respond. I recommend the launch ramp in Oakland at Embarcadero, just sough of Jack London Square. Wide ramp, large parking lot and plenty of water even in a minus tide. The halibut are at the Berkeley flats and the flats abeam of Chrissy field. Good luck!

Benicia downtown is a block from the harbor. There is a "meat market" there that makes good steak sandwhiches. I've heard good things about the fishing/bait store there.

I really like my two visits to Benicia, but I didn't see a boat ramp. Is there one there?

There's one at the marina and a small ramp west of it.

I realize I'm a bit late with this reply, but apparently have useful information

http://www.boatingsf.com/catpage.php?category=ramp
lists a number of ramps, but misses many. As a kayaker and 14' row boat owner, I do tend to ferret out odd places.

In San Rafael, Buck's Landing... poor docks but well located at the mouth of Las Gallinas Creek, see the man in the bar. Supposedly popular among fishermen

Under the west end of the Highway 37 Bridge over the Petaluma, Black Point, county run, new ramp and dock, I think the fee is $5

Up the mighty Petaluma, at the Greek restaurant in Lakeville, $2, watch your tides.

South of San Rafael, I understand, but have not checked it myself that Paradise Keyes(?)has a ramp with the marina upgrade.

Richmond, at the end of Boat Ramp St, but I am not sure of its condition. Kayakers lobbied to get it operational again, I've not been there to see if it can handle trailers but we kayakers love it. I understand there are other ramps in Richmond, but do not know even reliable rumors.
