I will be visiting Chesapeake City in July and I can't find much on where to stay. It appears that there is an anchorage on the charts which is fine but are there any marinas or places to tie up for the night? Can anyone advise on the anchorage (holding, mooring balls, etc). Thanks

In Chesapeake City you have 2 or 3 choices, depending on timing, luck and needs. The first is the city dock. it is rather short and has no services, IE not water or electric, or facilties, but you get what you pay for, it's free. The other down side, it is first come first served so your chances are slim.

The second is anchoring in "engineers cove" The holding is great and you are protected.

The third choice is Chesapeake Inn Marina. They almost always have dockage. their web site is http://www.chesapeakeinn.com/, and phone number is 410.885.2040. Andy is the dock master and sometimes he can be hard to get in touch with, but he will get you a slip. One consideration about if you want a slip, is that on the weekends, it is a party bar, it can get a little lound even on the docks.

Chesapeake City is a cute town, that can keep you ammused for a day or two.

When in july are you going to be there? I will be there July 19th, with 10+ boats.

NPH is right....couple of small points since I live and have my boat there. Some of the town docks do have water/electric it is $5/each for the night, max stay 24hrs, you pay at the town hall. Also there is a marina right next to the Chesapeake Inn which has a few transient slips sometimes, Chesapeake Anchorage: 410-885-9479 (mine is the Chesapeake Deadrise docked there) Marty is the guy to talk to there on Thurs-Sun cell 215.292.6015

Thanks all, I should be in town on the 22nd which is a Tuesday so hopefully I'll have a few options. Thanks again for the info and tips.

I wouldn't guarantee anything but you should be able to get a town dock.

Hey Grin,,when we go to NJ. we usually stop up that way, but go afew more miles up to Summitt North. Good transiet docks, and a bar/rest. I do not buy fuel there though.. Just another suggestion close, but didn't know if Chesap Cty was a definite stop.

I'll ditto Dusty. We went into Chesapeake City Sunday afternoon, no room at City Dock, no room at anchorage; the whole place seemed kinda tight so we bailed out and stayed at the lovely Summit North. Pretty place. They have a courtesy van to get you into town (Bear, DE). Also a pool. Probably more stuff to do in Ches City, but we liked the tranquility of SN. We may give Ches City another try on the way back.
