The thread about the DC boat show made me think of this. Less than 3 weeks away!

Atlantic City International Power Boat Show - Feb 4 - 8 2009.

I wonder how many big yachts will be there this year. Hopefully the dealers are hungry enough to bring some good ones.

I'm planning to go Sat. 2/7 as long as the roads are OK. We like to be there when the doors open at 11AM.

The 3PM "Wing-A-Thon" contest could be interesting. Sponsored by Hooters, no less....

Rob

I will be going, but on Sunday. our yacht club runs a bus trip there.

I always go but stay away from first day (set up) & last day (tear down). Also stay away from w/e because of crowds. Being retired can go mid-week. The only good thing about last day is: exhibitors are trading or getting rid of their give a ways.

Saturday. I'll be at the Wild Wild West Casino bar at 3PM, for anyone who wants a drink. Just say the secret code phrase, "I'm taking a bowrider to Block Island", and I'll buy you a drink.

Bob,

I can not get there until Sunday, can you leave a credit card with the bar tender. Don't worry I won't drink to much just one drink for each of us. The bus only holds 49 people so it can't be to bad.

HA! Sorry. I'll have to have an extra one for ya on Saturday, in your honor.

Gee, I have some unexpected time on my hands now.... maybe I'll go and get Bob to buy me another beer! How about it, Bob??!!

Oh well it was worth a try, but if you are going to have one for me it has to be Absolute and Cranberry!

I'm planning to go, Bob, how long are you planning to be at the bar? Not sure if I'll be out of the show that early.

I think the show was well represented. There were numerous boats from dingy's to a 47' Maridian. I liked the 36' Marine Trader Trawler what a good price. I almost went for it. I took my OP's manager today and will probably go back tomorrow with my wife. I bought 2 survival suits to have just in case. The Sham WoW booth was there! I also met Vic from Raritan and had a nice chat. I watched as people did purchase boats in the 30 to 35' range. I felt there were a lot of people there considering the economy. The sales guys seemed a bit depressed. Bill

Was Vince in the Sham Wow booth? If he was is he really as much as a weasel in person that he looks like on TV?? If anyone goes and sees him please tell him that I find him the most annoying person on TV.

We went today and I gotta agree with everything Bill said. I wasn't impressed by the 41' Meridian, well except for the enormous bridge deck. The Marine Trader 36 has a top speed of only 10 knots and would my first choice based on looks alone.
What was notable to me was the price tags were suspiciously absent from a lot of the larger boats- except Formula, where I got major sticker shock at their prices ($503,000 "show special" for a 40 footer- OUCH).
I too was surprised by the crowd. Maybe the good weather helped. It seemed similar to previous years. The Marine Marketplace had roughly the same number vendors, but the insurance and financing booths were like ghost towns. The Noreaster Magazine had a booth but it was completely empty.
Mike- there were -TWO- ShamWow booths, and Vince was nowhere to be found. I think that guy is a riot! I might need a Slap Chop... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHHuY57K3Vw&feature=related

Weird, I thought the 44' Meridian was a very nice and very well thought out boat. The boat had walkable gunwales, a very spacious bridge, covered deck area, large salon, two heads, two state rooms, etc. The boat was pricey at $608k, but it was a nice boat.
