After 5 years, I had to replace the battery in my 2001 Sea Ray 190 Bowrider at the beginning of this season, which was June for me, unfortunately.
We are almost never just on the hook, and when we are, the only electronics we use are the onboard radio. Boat has one battery, and the usual array of gauges, power trim, depthfinder, bilge pumps, etc. The original battery was a Sportsmen deep cycle (not dual purpose), and I replaced it with a Die Hard marine starting battery of equivalent size and CCA, which was manufactured in June, 2006.
The problem - During periods of infrequent use, the new battery seems to lose it's charge, and I'm unable to start the boat the next time I arrive. No electronics ever left on, so it seems to be dying from just sitting there. Other than more frequent boat use, any suggestions? Should I have replaced it with another deep cycle battery instead of a starting battery?
