While drive to the boat on Hwy 88, I noticed a sign at the intersection of Liberty Rd. It said "Folsom Diversion Canal.....". The sign was posted by EBMUD, who owns Comanche Lake water. This dam is on the Mokelumne River. It looks like they are going to be diverting water between Folsum Lake and EBMUD via 4 ft wide pipeline. EBMUD currently diverts water from Comanche via pipeline, bypassing the delta.

yzer, have you found any details of this and how it will impact the delta? If so, please post so that we can all be more knowledgeable about what EBMUD is up to! I don't trust those guys......

WhaT the? That's a strange one. If I find something I'll post it. Anyone heard about this?

OK Flutter, here you go. That thing can pull up to 185 million gallons per day from the Sacramento River at Freeport and sends it along an extension of the Folsom South Canal to the EBMUD Mokelumne Aqueduct. The FSC main branch can (not sure if it does, yet) pull water from Lake Natoma. Use of these far flung EBMUD tendrils are reserved for dry year and drought use.

Here is the latest doc I can find on it. That puppy you saw is on page 13. This is a 5.25 mb download.

I knew they must be up to no good [for the Delta]. So when we don't have enough water flowing through the Delta, they will take water which should flow through the Delta and bypass the Delta over to their conveyance which already circumvents the Delta. Lordy! And this kind of thing goes on without any concern for how it affects our precious Delta.

Makes my blood boil!

Thanks, yzer, for finding this info and posting it.

The amount is small when compared to SWP and CVP pumping. This water is to be used in our own region to forestall water rationing when salt water intrusion gets bad in the south Delta. That happens during dry years or droughts. I believe a court order is required to use this part of the EBMUD system and it will only be used when they can't get usable water further down the system.
