Zachs Bay...(been a while)

So went to Zachs to check out air show this weekend but chickened ou on actually going into bay. Decided to anchor just north of the western opening with some other boats. Question, what's the normal approach? In the old days, the channel ran north south on the west side of the bay and there was low water in the opening to the east that faces the state channel. After air show was over, I did see rather large vessels cross right through the eastern opening (by the orange shoal buoy). Can I get a thumbnail on what's the norm in Zachs? I liked being back there and want to go back more often.
 
East cut is shoaled up, though when show ended it was high tide but there was not alot of water.
How large of boat?
Did he have outdrives?
Flat bottom?
 
It was a Carver 32 Mariner which is almost exact same configuration as my mid cabin. There was a parade of boats that came out that way but based on your response, I'm going to assume that the west entrance is what I should continue to use :-)
 
At high tide you can barely make it thru and even then u need to be dead on.
I am gonna guess there is maybe 3' of water there at high.
Not worth the risk.
Even if you do make it you are churning mud which is not good.
 
I've seen people walk across that east opening in low tide. For that reason alone, I don't use it.
Some might, or probably can, make it, but going through the west entrance with it's buoys is the better choice.
It seemed a little more shallow than usual at some points in between the buoys at the west entrance, but it was still good.
 
The tide has been stupid low this spring.... Im not liking it one bit.

I do not understand why the tides are so low. Is this normal? From memory, I do not remember the winter tides lasting into June. The wind has been blowing strong from the south, southwest and southeast for quite a few days. Why isn't the ocean filling the bay yet?
 
Lack of rain as well. But it was like this in 2013 because I remember us all saying it was from inlet. In 2014 it was not though.
This year it is again. It should level out to normal tides eventually but any wind out of the west seems to do it.
Today's rain should help!
 
Interesting you say lack of rain. I made same comment at dock this weekend and all the guys said no impact from rain. They all said it was 100% dependent on the ocean.
 
Well think about how much rain runoff goes into the bay. Yes it does come from ocean, but the ocean and bay are low. Droughts happen. Look at California. I think rain water helps. How come when we get a heavy rain they say there is coastal flooding and the tides always run high? Our bay is a bathtub with only a few drains.

West winds. Been blowing hard all spring. Had a sailboat run aground in my canal the other day. I really don't know what he was thinking. Quite obvious tide was very low. He said he draws 4 feet. I have never seen less than 6 in the canal. Rest of bay is much shallower so not sure where he thought he was going.
 
Now that the weekend is over the tide is back at a decent level with the east wind.
