Hello All, I'm looking to upgrade to a larger model so Im putting my boat on the market. Let me know if you're interested.

This 2001 Bayliner 285 is in great condition. It is turnkey ready to cruise on the delta and bay. There are very few of this model available for sale in the Bay Area so respond quickly. The owner is looking to upgrade to a larger model. This vessel features the following:
-7.4L Mercruiser MPI. 300hp, 100 hours. 40psi
-Queen size forward v berth, queen size berth in mid cabin with privacy door
-Complete galley with microwave, regrigerator, alcohol/electric two burner stove, sink with hot and cold water
-Garmin 440s GPS/Color Chartplotter
-Fishfinder/Depthsounder
-New Canvas Enclosure (Sept 08)
-Cruises comfortably at 28mph. Top speed exceeds 40mph

Yes. I'm looking to upgrade to a Bayliner 305. I bought this boat last year and added new canvas, gps, lcd/dvd flat screen tv. Tuned up and serviced the engine, things of that nature.

Im happy with this boat and if it doesnt sell Im fine with that but I've identified an opportunity to move up to the 305 at a reasonable price thus the offer to sell my boat now.

Don't do the two footitis thing. Take a look around and move up to a boat that will last you for a while. It'll be cheaper in the long run with prices as depressed as they are now. We've considered moving down in size a bit and to perhaps something a little newer, but the economics don't justify it at the moment.
 
I tend to agree with Dave on this one. If you're going to upgrade to a boat with two engines, make it worth your while. Go to something which is much bigger and has more features like a genset and a dingy. Buying a boat that is just a little bigger than the one you have will give you a little more room, but not much else. At that point you'll also have the choice of staying with the Sport Cruiser type of boat that you have or going with a motor yacht or convertible.

Also, since the prices are as depressed as they are now, you may have a very hard time selling yours. So if the right deal comes along, you may end up having to make some tough decisions about your current boat.

I did some looking around and actually walked through a few 305s. The difference in beam, head room is amazing. Though it's a difference of 2 feet in length it's truly a huge difference in space.

Also, by keeping the upgrade to 30 feet I can keep the slip Im in now and keep my costs low.
 
One trip with the wife and you need a bigger boat? LOL Good luck.
 
Are you sure you want to stick with an express? I'm only asking because I had one (still have it,actually, it's for sale too!) and when we started cruising with our club on long weekends and spending weekends on the boat when we weren't crusing we decided to move up. Spending so much time on our boat (and wanting to spend more time!) it bacame apparent that we needed something with more of a 'salon'. Express salons, to us, were more like coffins - too dark regardless of the number of windows - and we always felt a little claustrophobic. We now have a 33' Carver and couldn't be happier. Granted the Carver can't match our express when it comes to speed, but that's something that was never important to us anyway. Besides, when cruising with our club we were always going at the speed of the slowest boat anyway! I'm just saying - make sure the boat not only fills your immediate needs but what you'd really like to do in the future. We looked at the 285 before we bought our express (Rinker 270, which is pretty comparable) and couldn't imagine needing anything else - ever! Man, if we knew then what we know now we would've gone in a totally different direction and wouldn't be saddled with a boat that we can't sell!

Thanks for the advice. Yes I walked through the 305 and the cabin space is immense. It really is like a salon. Also, the cockpit has this huge U shaped couch that can seat 5 people or more. So with a full enclosure that also doubles as a salon as well. Im pretty much set on the move if I can pull it off. If I can move up to the 305 I would be done looking for a boat for many many years.

Don't want to beat a dead horse too much, but there is some really good advice here. Go bigger now, you will save a lot of headache's and probably some money too!

Thats a really nice looking boat - great lines and probably gets very good gas milage. Ive been on several of the 305's and they are beautifull - as I recall the front is a giant wrap-around sofa that can turn into a berth - right? I sold an '05 27' last year- I loved it - and sometimes I miss the speed and sexiness of it, but mostly I love the space of the flybridge design. The ability to have 5 seperate areas where people can hang out is what really sold me. Kids can get away from parents, go upstairs, lock themselves in the forward berth, etc so it makes long weekends more fun. If you come to the gathering, you will no doubt get to tour lots of boats, and we will get to see yours! Either way, shopping for a boat is half the fun - good luck!
