Opinions wanted: We've got a 10-day "cruise" opportunity coming up. I'm thinking of sticking around the mid-bay and marina hopping due to sea nettles. Possible stops include: Annapolis, Oxford, Cambridge (Hyatt/River Marsh), St. Michaels (Miles River YC), Kent Island (Castle Harbor). I need to thin that list as that's too many destinations. We've been to all these places before, but some not in a few years. Comments? Suggestions? Did I miss a "gem" anywhere?
 
Ok, Some of my favorites.

Annapolis, which is on your list. St Michaels also on your list. Great Oak, Either a night on the hook along the beach or in the marina itself, Baltimore, and last but not least Herrington Harbor South.
 
I would pass on Oxford. Its a quiet place ....... a bit too quite.
 
The Admiral brought that one to the discussion. I think she likes a restaurant or two there.

I'm new to the area so what you listed is basically where I have been (not all of 'em yet). How about Rock Hall? We did stay at Red Eye's but honestly spent all our time on the "other side of the road" at the Jetty, Big Owl's, Crab Deck etc. It you go to St Michael's then that could be a stop for you. We did the Knapp's narrows trip but that was quiet as i had mentioned in a previous post.

Yes, not much at the Narrows. Not much in Oxford. Nothing at the Hyatt except Frisbee Golf and nice pools. I'm annoyed too much when in Rock Hall ($20 to use the dinghy dock at Haven Harbor to eat at THEIR little restaurant, really?!?!). Solomons is one of my favorite stops, but we were just there a few weeks ago. With some nice weather coming in we'll probably have a few days at anchor mixed in with perhaps a stay at Miles River Yacht Club outside of St. Micheals and perhaps a few days in Annapolis. There was a day when I'd haul-butt and see how far south we could get but we were just at Key West in May, so I already know how far south I can get :-)

If you haven't been there, you might consider substituting Galesville for one of the places you've been to before. Knapp's Narrows can be worth a one-nighter en route, if you'll be up the Choptank anyway.

We usually prefer Herrington Harbour NORTH in Deale. The pool at the SOUTH location is too hectic for us, Mango's food service has never been good (for us), food quality iffy, docking on the wrong side of the inlet can be a pain.

If you're at River Marsh on night of Sep 1/2/3, look me up...

We love Annapolis Town Dock it's always interesting but best to go during the week or its tough to get a slip. Instead of Castle Harbor why not try Bay Bridge marina? Not much at CH. We also do Chesapeake Beach, great restaurant and indoor pool. We have been to Oxford but a little quiet for me. I would rather do Hyatt or Knapps Narrows. We usually stay at Miles River or Higgins in St. Mikes, Higgins is at least close to town. But Miles River is fun on the weekends. You did not mention Balt. We stayed at Harborview over the 4th and got to know Fed. Hill. Had a great time there.

So many choices, so little time. What a great problem to have.
Enjoy your trip! no matter what you choose you will have a blast.

Chris - thanks for that info. I'll take a look at Galesville. All the places I've named I've been too, Knapp's included. But never Galesville. As for Herrington, eh, they're on my "boycott" list. Of all the places I've been I've never had one charge me for missing a reservation because of bad weather (the winds picked up, I called, they didn't care). Plus, the owner is a "No Discharge Zone" supporter and I own a Type I MSD. I've testified against him in Annapolis. There's no way I'm giving that guy any of my money. I should have disputed the slip charge.

Van, we were just downtown B'more last weekend. We always stay at Harbor East. I agree that Higgins is great. I love the location and the owners are fantastic people. But we try to spend some money at yacht clubs too in order to support them and the pool at MRYC is much, MUCH larger than the one at Higgins! ;-) As for Castle Harbor my cousin used to live there (townhouse and boat) so I know a bunch of the slip holders. We always have a good time with them. And I'm a HUGE fan of Cafe Sado. That's some of the best Asian food I've ever had (well, other than the new Thai restaurant at North Palm Beach Marina, but this trip isn't long enough to get there and back!

Sounds like you're already here in Annapolis, which is one of the better ports on the Bay. We're headed over to Hemingway's today at 1:00 PM, which is at the other side of the Bay Bridge just to the south. New floating docks, nice food with outside bar and a band will be playing. We'll be on Icelandic Star, a 35' Cabo. Let me know if you're coming by.

+1 on boycotting Herrington Harbor due to NDZ.

If you stay at Knapps Narrows, which I recommend for a night, you should eat at the restaurant at KN marina. New owners have a great chef that rivals St Mikes food. Grab a bike at the marina office and go over the world's busiest drawbridge to the southern point of Tilghman Island. On the way stop at Tilghman Island Country Store for breakfast. Best on the island.

Galesville is nice and Big Momma's is easy to dock and have breakfast or lunch. Thursday's is on the water, too.

Can't beat St Mikes. Eat at Ava's, for sure!

Kurt this might be the year I take 2 weeks and cruise to your area. It won't be until mid September.

Even late October is great here. Heck, we usually boat well into December. Let me know when you're coming. Call me, etc.

BTW, we're in St. Michaels right now. The Wi-Fi says "Powered by WaveWifi" :-)

Ava's is good. We've eaten there in the past. Last night did Theo's (sister-restaurant to Ava's). It was AWESOME! Heading to the Vietnamese place this evening; "Marcoritaville". We've met some fantastic people here at St. Micheal's Harbour Inn. Miles River YC was full, and we wanted a pool. I HIGHLY recommend this place. Staff is great. Piers are in great shape. Pool is small, but it's full of water!
 
Is Marcoritaville the place down at the end of the street with the tables with umbrellas out front? We used to go there when it was another name and it was great(forget what name it was). We went back last fall after it changed and were not impressed. Ava's never fails to impress!

BTW, I agree with all your comments about the Harbour Inn.
 
Yes, Mike, that's the place. The owner was out and about and explained he's been working on the menu to appeal to the local crowd. There's not as much Vietnamese food on there now. We both got Pho and he said we were the only people who ordered it (it was very good). However, he's owned it for a couple years now, so I don't think you experienced an ownership change. Most likely you got a menu change.

We went to the Irish place last night for their 1/2 price shrimp deal (locally called the "Black Pickle"). Our server took our order in the nearly empty restaurant and then came back to inform us the specials were only good at the empty bar. We paid for our drinks, tipped her well, and went to Carpenter Street where we had a great meal. Another day here and then we'll head to Castle Harbor on Kent Island. Cafe Sado there is one of my favorite restaurants. I highly recommend it if you've never been. Very good Asian food. BOGO sushi every day if eating in.

We just had a bacon-covered donut in St. Mikes. Uh, er, uh, heaven? I'll post a pic in NBR soon. Wow (half was gone before I could take the picture, but who could blame me?).
