My wife and i are thinking about moving up to something very laid back. Where, looking at an older Mainship Nantuckit. The layout is just right for us. Nice weekends on the hook come to mind for one. Long trips in comfort for another.

I would like to hear any comments from past owners or anyone who has had some contact with these boats. Let me know what you think.

Thanks, Al

I've got a friend with one. Love that boat. Great layout, slices thru the waves without getting you wet.
Most have 350 gas engines and many would say, not enough engine for a 36 footer. Wrong. Boat runs great with those 350's.
My only complaint with the boat is the flybridge is a little tight. Other than that, you get a lot of interior space on that boat and I should know as my 38 aft Carver has more interior space than many 40-44 footers.

Charles, Thanks for the comments! This vessel has been updated with two new Marine Power 7.4L EFI 340 hp gasoline V-8s. Ill be happy if she has a 20 knot cruising speed. I have to agree with you about the bridge, theres only room for about four persons up there. I guess you can't have everything.

I'm guessing you will get 20 knot cruising at about 3000 RPM's. My buddy's boat does about 17 knots and I don't think he runs much over 3000.
Great boat.
Some day I would like to have a trawler style boat and that boat has more room than most 40' trawlers. Now if I could find one with a pair of Ford Lehman's. Yes, I know my cruising speed would be 7-8 knots, but considering how much room it has and that I had incredible cruising range, I would be very happy with that boat.

I have a few friends that have them nice boats. I am partial to Mainships good value for your money. The interiors are very spacious. Good luck Al. Regards Bill

Al you should check out the Mainship Group on Yahoo. It's a good group of Mainshiper's and great place for information specific to Mainships. Take care. Bill

And make certain you get it surveyed! ;)

(You had to know that was coming!)

Honora, No problem.. Glad to see your ready for that survey coming up on the sea ray your considering.

BillyIII, Thanks for the information...

MikeeH, Ive already completed a complete hull inspection and checked all under water machinery. Looking good so far! Next step sea-trial and fluid sampling.

Thanks for all the comments.. Ill keep you posted on the outcome.

I have a 1986 36 D/C and really like the boat. We use it for long extended weekends. I am fortunate to have a hard top on the bridge and over the aft section w / wing doors. VERY livable... lots of room. Crusader motors 14 / 15 knots and economical. As mentioned before, you do get a lot of boat for the money. Lots of interior woodwork and 2 heads w / showers. BTW 1100 hrs.

36mainship36, Thanks for the comments.. We took this boat out on a sea-trial yesterday. I could not belive how well it performed with the 454 EFIs. 20 mph at cruise with a top speed of 34 mph. Im sending fluid samples off to the lab today. If the engine and drive results come back clean, will close the deal on friday. Ill keep you all posted on the outcome.

Good Deal. It will be great to have someone on this board to exchange notes. I bought my boat in Fall River Mass. and drove it to
[ Long Island Sound - East River - Atlantic Ocean ] South Jersey in 2 days. Nice trip early Spring.
Keep in touch.....

Lou R.

The deal is done! We will be taking are boat home this weekend. Its a job buying a used boat.. Hopefully i wont have to do this again for a long time. Thanks again for all the comments.

Lou, Will do.. Maybe we can get together on the big raft up at Croton this year. Boats come from all over to enjoy the wonderful friendship thats shared each year.

Mike, Thanks! My wife and i are very happy..

Bruce, Congrats on gettinng her home! As the old saying goes: Nothing good is ever easy. Glad to hear your in good shape after all. Consider a trip up the Hudson. Your welcome to raft up with us anytime.
