I'm looking at acquiring a 1999 Sea Ray 310 with B 3 outdrives and plan to take a look at a boat this weekend.

I would appreciate any comments on this model, partiularly any specific items I should look for during the "inspection". Also were the corrosion issues with the B-3 resolved on this boat and if so what should I look for.

Appreciate any input

I have a 2002 310DA. I love the boat and I haven't found anything specific to the 310 that you should look for during the survey. The metal trim around the few hatches in the cockpit corroded a little and the paint started peeling, but I just replaced them. 1998 to 2001 model years had some water ingestion issues from the exhaust set-up, but I think that was just with the v-drives, not outdrive models. Mine has v-drives, I'm not too familiar with the B-3 corrosion issues. The 310 lay out makes it very roomy for this size boat. Good luck with the survey.

If you check out the 380 thread, the same issues Dominic spoke of apply to the 310 except for the engine type. The exhaust set-up was the same and was replaced the same way. But again, this only applies to the v-drives, not outdrive models.

Thanks for the input, I plan to check the vessel out this coming weekend.

Kevdon:

I have never owned B3 drives, but from what I have seen and read, 1999's were in the years where the problem existed. You would be diligent to have a certified merc mechanic(Not the selling dealers mechanic or the seller's mechanic, but your own hired mechanic) do a thoro inspection. Also, see if you can get any and all service records. Look even closer if the drives are freshly painted....paint will hide a multitude of sin....

good luck,
