2 cycle oil in gas filter to fog

8.1L mercruisers, fuel injected, mercruiser manual recommends dumping out some fuel from the gas filter and putting 2oz of 2 cycle oil in the filter to fog. Does anyone do this or am I the only one. When I tell people I do it they look at me like i am crazy.

I have a 1 Gal tank and hose containing the gas, fuel stabil, and ethanol treatment. unhook the fuel line, connect mine and run the engine
 
I had 8.1 Horizon Mercs in my Cruisers and my mechanic said that fogging is not needed anymore. He used to pour marvel mystery oil into filter when I first got it. Then same mechanic who was merc certified said that with the newer fuels with ethanol merc felt this was not needed. But it can't hurt but will smoke alot!
 
I like the marvel mystery oil idea. I put it in the generator cylinders. Next year will put it in the gas filters.
 
2 cycle oil is ashless oil made to burn and is the right idea.

I once put old dried up gaskets in a dish of MMO to soften them up. I forgot it for a week. When I checked it out, the MMO had half evaporated down to heavy golden colored regular looking oil. I expect there's a lot of solvent used to thin it out, but it does have a base of oil.

About 10-12 years ago, I started using 2 cycle oil as a top end lubricant in my gas to make up for the loss of the Zinc and Phosphorus in oil. Then I started using a Zinc/Phosphate additive in the oil.

Just went out to light some MMO on fire to see how much black smoke came off but I musta ran out of MMO. Maybe someone else might try the experiment.
