2001 Sea Ray 340 Sundancer

I've been looking at boats in this class for some time now and just came across this one. The current owner makes this comment in his ad:

"Engines were repowered and have only 40 hours since servicing due to Water Ingestion Exhaust recall. Do not buy a Sea Ray that has not had this issue resolved."

What's does he mean by "Water Injestion Exhaust Recall"?

The recall was due to the exhaust set-up around 1998 to 2001. The 310 and 370 had similar issues. The exhaust was changed half way through 2001 and they added "barrel" type water-lift exhaust mufflers. The old style exhaust was a "log" type system with water ingestion issues. Some boats have not been changed and seem to be fine, but it depends on a number of factors. The 340 is a great boat with the updated exhaust and especially with new engines. Although, I think 340 owners may say the boat is a little underpowered with the 6.2s. Most have the 8.1s. That would be a question for them though, I own a 310 with 5.7s.
 
Was it just the barrel muffler upgrade ??

Or did they also add a 4" spacer between the manifold and riser....to drain the water better ?
 
What do you think about the asking price for this particular boat, $87,500? Seem fair?

I'm not a negotiator, what's a fair starting offer, -25%?

Need to agree on a price before owner will unwrap it and put it in the water for sea trial and survey.
 
Well.....there are 10 pages of 2001 34' Sea Rays on Yacht World (dot) com.....so competition is fierce.
 
There is a spacer on the newer system. The price does same fair, but I would plan on getting 10% off that price, especially in this market. As I said before, it may be a little underpowered, but the new engines are a nice bonus for that price.
 
Depends on all the usual factors. That price is a good ask if in good shape and has the equip. you want.
