The warm weather is approaching and it's time to start thinking about the 2011 Boater Ed Bay and Delta (BE BAD) Spring Fling. Is anyone interested in getting together for a weekend raft-up or marina stay? We did this last in 2009...here's the link.

How does everyone feel about a March or April date? (I like mid-April.) I guess it would have to be anytime before June 22nd to qualify as a Spring Fling.

I liked the idea of going to a marina instead of a raftup, kinda like we did at Village West Marina. It allowed us to move around and socialize easily, and going to the restaurant together was a good time. Also, those without boats could join up easily while others could come and go at will without the need to 'unraft.'

Thoughts?

I'd love another get together, but like always, I always prefer to be out on the water rafted up. That being said, mid April can be pretty chilly, so a marina might be better. Count us in!

If I finish work on the boat in time. BUT, I need a guide. I haven't taken a boat in Frank's Tract since the early 70's and that was with someone who was familiar with it.

Hey LIZzzzzzz...

I figured that once my boat went to Alaska to live, my boating days would be over.......

My sister is coming to stay with me for a month from mid-March through mid-April......so I can't join you then. Her health precludes her from joining in such an activity.

Al, thanks for bring back the wonderful memories of that Spring Fling! What a blast! And the weather was just perfect except for Sunday's howling winds!!!

My last trip up to Stockton was an overnight at the new Stockton Marina. Very nice facility! Perhaps that would be a nice place to gather. There is even a hotel there for anyone not wanting to sleep on a boat. Check out this website.

Count Mary and I in. Anywhere is OK with us.
How about the Delta Marina, isnt that the one by the Point Restaurant in Rio Vista. I think that would be closer for most and I could put in at Brannon Island.

Anyone with an idea for a date for this.
Any weekend should be good for mary and I.
Are we thinking March, April or..............

Best weekends for me (in order):

1. April 9-10
2. March 19-20

May is booked for me.

I like dvan's idea of Delta Marina in Rio Vista. It's a short, enjoyable cruise for many, The Point Restaurant, it's just a short walk into Rio Vista. There are hotels in this area for non-boaters, too. The transient dock can accomodate 8-10 boats easily, but we'd need to arrange to reserve the space, if allowed. I just called them to inquire, but they're on their winter hours, which means closed Monday. I'll try to follow up this week to see if one weekend is better than another.

Any other dates or location ideas? Pittsburgh? Antioch? Oxbow? Village West? I hear Absoloot likes Windmill Cove? ;-)

I recommend east Delta for this time of year. More protection from storm winds which can be significant. And as we all know, the weather is very unpredictable. The Delta Marina is very sheltered, but getting there by boat might be dicey. Or it might be wonderful!!!

I might be able to come over for a day trip by car with my sister if the location is available by car. But I'll have to be a maybe until details are firmed up and my sister is here. It depends on her health, etc.

It looks like its time just to set a time and place and see if it works with most people.
Like April 8-10 (after time change) Place, Delta Marina in Rio Vista...

I changed it to 8-10, If this is a go I will plan on being there Friday morning.
Cant think of a better reason to take a day off work..........

I would be interested for the west side of the Delta and as long as there is no rain... we get as wet on the inside as the outside!

I called Delta Marina and they are full for the weekend with boats coming and going for Vessel Safety checks. There would be space for us on Friday night, but we'd have to depart EARLY Saturday morning.

It looks like we should
a) find another marina destination,
b) decide on a raft up or
c) reschedule for another weekend at Delta Marina.

What do you all think would be best?

Its all OK with me. April is good. May, I have a few commentments.

I'm always in favor of a raft up, but they are usually weather dependent. With the salmon season starting, I may be out on the big blue more and in the Delta a little less. I will try to make it though just pick a date and location and we'll be there if we can.
