28' Carver Voyager Starboard Engine Problems

Hi all, I'm a new member and my 1990 28' Carver voyager is having engine problems. Not real serious I hope but still a problem. It has twin 305 Crusaders, electronic ignition, 4 brl carb. The problem is the engine runs fine at idle and low speed say less then 2400 rpms but as soon as I try to accelerate the starboard engine starts missing and back firing out the carb and has no power. It won't go above 2800 rpms. I've changed the fuel filter and checked the fuel for water by removing a plug in the top rear part of the gas tank and siphoned some gas from the bottom rear and it is H2O free. I have some skills and would like to fix it myself before seeking an expert. Any Ideas. Could a bad coil cause these problems? I would appreciate your suggestions.

You really should ask these questions on the engines forum where you will get more and better responses. This really is not a Carver issue.

I was at the boat yard this weekend and another customers boat was doing the same thing. I was watching the diagnosis and repair while painting my bottom. It turned out to be a coil on that boat. They were not 305's however. Don't know much about engines, just sounded similar to your issue.

Welcome to the Carver family! Charles (cwms) is right, for mechanical stuff, use that forum - trust me, they helped me through a gen-set issue.
For Carver questions and info, however, this IS the place!!!
 
Chris, wish I could help you on your problem but I dont have the expertise - whatever you find out from the "Engines" forum, please post it here so we can see how you made out!!!
 
Thank you all for pointing me in the right direction for help. I posted on the engine forum and received many valuable trouble shooting tips. After I determined that the problem had nothing to do with fuel quality or how it was delivered to the carb (Q-jet) I took some of the suggestions that it was a carburator problem. I had it rebuilt and ta-daa its fixed and running great. Thanks again for all your help.

Your problem sounds like a broken dampner plate I had to replace one several years ago.
My engine did the same thing back fired out the carb. Ran fine at low rpm.
