The ac's in my 1986 aft cabin are new and seem to put out a ton of cold air. They don't seem to be able to overcome all the glass area. I have canvas over the outside side windows and curtains over the front windows on the inside. I can feel the heat rolling off the windshield area. Is this just my problem, or is it common on this boat? South Floida in the summer. 92 degrees and bright sun outside, 85 degrees inside with the air on. What do you think?

Up here in Michigan, if I did not have canvas over the windshield, the AC wouldn't probably keep up.

I too can feel the heat through the canvas on the windshield.

And on hot days, I have to close all of the curtains for the AC to cool the boat sufficiently.

how big is your unit ? i have two 16k btus up in the saloon and right now in the afternoon it's barely enough to keep it under 79/80. i have tried adding canvas cover on the windhshield, i have blinds on the side windows ... even with the canvas covers i can fiel the heat during the day, it's radiating from teh temperature of the glass...

I have a new Ocean Breeze 16000 in the salon(which is 9' wide by 12 long.) I think this is just a "boat thing". I got the aft cabin for the big windows in the salon and 4 months a year it is too hot to have the blinds open. Good weather is right around the corner!

I have a windshield too, it had a off white outside cover, several years ago I got new canvas and people talked me into changing that cover to dark brown to match the rest of the canvas on the boat. The A/C would just keep up with the heat from the sun with the off white, with the dark brown there was no way. I got 1 inch blue board and cut it to fit the windshield and kept it under the canvas, solved the problem big time. I use the FB so never take the cover off the lower station windshield unless the weather really gets bad.

everything is wrong now. the sea water is too hot, the sun and air temp are too high, your engines take lunger to cool off and you are hot and sweaty. Welcome to summer.

I was just going to recommend white or light grey windshield covers too. Anything to reflect the sun and not absorb it will help greatly

Yes move to a cooler climate ! Mine work fine in my 36 mariner. .Plenty cold dont even run the forward unit most of the time.. I think its the forward windows that are the problem..
