370 aft cabin

The 35 AC that has been on the hard for 3 years may be too much of a project for us. However, we have found a fresh water, gasoline power, covered slip kept and well maintained 1993 370 aft cabin. Anyone with knowledge about and experience with these boats. Thanks, Vince
 
I was looking at the 370's before I decided on a 406. What questions do you have?
 
The 370 was a pretty popular boat. It had some issues with the stringers in the first couple of model years, but Carver fixed all of them. Overall a VERY big boat, with a nice beam and huge interior. It was replaced in 1996(?) with the 405/406.
 
Thanks for the answers. Looks like the 370 is a good boat. We want a large boat. Hope the 1993's did not have the stringer problems. Boatn, why did you decide on a 406 over the 370? Do you like the 406 since you bought it? Ramsport states that the two boats are similar. Is it easy to handle? What do you like the most? And what (if any) are the drawbacks? If your boat has gas engines what is your fuel usage at cruise and trawler speed? Thanks Vince
 
The 405/406 is 1' LOA longer, same beam but 6000 pounds heavier. Extended stern with moulded steps (very nice feature) the interiors of both boats are almost the same. The 405/406 holds 100 gallons of fuel more that 370.
 
vriceflyer is correct. The 406 is slightly longer. We picked up a little space in the aft cabin, salon and aft deck. The aft cabin layout is slightly different and I really like the walk around berth on the 405/406 as compared to the 370. The 406 has molded in steps which I really like. I also have an upper bunk in my forward cabin that I never saw on the 370. I know there are many other differences but those are the one that stick in my mind. But the biggest reason we moved up to the 406 is the newer technology. We sold an 89 Luhrs to go to an aftcabin and I wanted MPI engines, digital AC, etc, etc, The 370's seemed like they had the best of the old technology. The 406 had new technology.

All very good reasons for the newer boat. Do you have any information on the fuel consumption?
 
Believe it or not but I've never checked. We boat on a lake and most of our cruising is at about 1500rpm. And at that speed it takes most of the summer to go thru 100 gallons. For the few times we do run at 3600rpm I know I'm under 1 mpg. Probably about .8mpg but that is just a guesstimate.

My 406 is currently listed on Boatcrazy dot com with a couple of others. You should look at the 406 and 405's so you can draw your own conclusions on the differences. But i don't think you'd be going wrong with any of these boats.
 
Looked at a 1998 356 today. Real nice boat good layout. I think a 370 may be a bit larger. I hope it is. The boat we looked at in Houston last year was a 1997 43 CMY with Cummins diesels. It is our favorite but out of our price range. I just found a write up by a David Pascoe on a 370 Carver. Not very complimentary on the Carver line. Is there any truth to that stuff?
 
That is the issue I referred to in my earlier post, and once Pascoe distlikes a boat, the entire brand from inception to present is not to his liking. In short, he's very biased.
