We just purchase our new 2006 3880 in October of 2007 and when we clean the floor we noticed the perimeter is much darker than the middle. We also notice the decortive vines up top of the gally closest to the bow window have a much differnt coloring. The floor is our real concern, it appears to us the boat sat in the sun without the windsheild cover. So far the dealer is saying this is not cover in my warranty and has refer me to Regal Customer Service. The wood of which we are speaking of was an expensive upgrade and is also fade in the salon. Any advice would be appreciate.

Regal has had a few issues in the past with cabinet doors fading in the sun. They have always taken care of the customer in this regard. Give Regal customer service a call. 1-800-US-REGAL

"NOTHING" in the world used for marine use should fade in two years !!

So much for the dealer's support and service. I would think the dealer would have attended to these problems prior to selling the boat as new. Well, maybe not.

Billfish;

sounds like the center of the floor probably had a carpet over it for a period of time. if that is the case, over time the center will darken with exposure to air and sun and eventually catch up with the perimeter. absent that the alternative is to sand it all down and refinish the floor. lost of dust even with the right equipment. not many other choices when it comes to natural wood.

although the boat is new to you and you want it to be perfect, this is a case of asking is it worth the hassle of trying to fix it or not. remember wood is a natural product and is not going to remain the same after exposed to sunlight and air.

Billfish,

I'm having a similar problem with my late 2006 as well. Let me know how you fare with Regal Customer Support. I've had some fading on the cabinets in the salon and the head door.

I called Regal cuctomer service Monday and had a lengthy conversation with Don Fitzgerald. He said that he would take another look at the pictures the dealer had sent him and he would get back to me. They are seemingly trying to make light of this . All I keep hearing is what great deal I got, but at the same time I bring to their attention that I dind't buy an as is boat. I am still keeping my cool with hope this will be resolved properly. Vic there was nothing laying on the floor like a throw rug . This is definitely sun fade . The floor under the edge of my frig matches the cab. this should be uniform. I also take offence when the dealer and customer service make like I got such a great deal on a leftover and this should be par for the course .

Keep after them, Bill. I can't supply you with any pictures of mine until I get back down to Tennessee but I'll be glad to take some when I get there. I haven't started the process yet since I really just discovered it late last fall when the season was about over. I planned to start this spring on that project. We intend to take our 4080 on the Great Loop starting next Sep. so I wanted to get everything taken care of well before then.
The "deal" you got on the boat should have no bearing on the quality. You might remind them to read their own brochure and mission statement again before they suggest that this is "par for the course". Good luck.

Thanks Kent, I am waiting till Monday to hear from Don. I don't want to call Don if he doesn't call me, because in my mind if he is not calling me he doesn't have anything good to say or he is droping the ball either way. Does anyone know who I could talk to at that point . Thanks .

Bill, is the floor cherry and holly? If so cherry will fade considerably with exposure to sunlight. I have a hardwood flooring company and we deal with this all the time.Good luck Jazzy

Question guys,How much sun can get into a cabin in two years to cause fading.I have never been in a boat that had so much light that I would need to worry about sun exposure.Do we need to cover all hatches and windows, that would be a little excessive in the short run.
P.S. still iced out on upper mississippi

The 4080 has a large glass sliding door, two large side windows and a wrap around forward window that lets in a TON of sunlight. MUCH MUCH more then an express boat. That said you would think Regal would select materials with better fade resistance.

I see .Thanks.So they should increase tint and UV protection.
I have noticed a lot more wood on swim platforms and decks,I wonder if they are treated differently for protection from sun.

Jazzy, Yes it is Cherry Holly and it does fade to much. I too am in the flooring buss. and do agree with Roomer that better precations should have been taken .
