FWIW, Saint Max (gasser 330DA) was terribly undertabbed. I called Bennett regarding the size of the tabs and their ability to take any additional stress if I decided to enlarge them. They told me the size I wanted to go to could be handled by the existing hydraulics.
Bennett suggests 9 inches of length from the stern and 1 inch of tab width per side for each foot of length or in cases of limited mounting area going to a 12 inch length. Saint Max is 33 feet translating to 33" X 9" inch tabs totaling 297 square inches or 25" X 12" if space was limited. The problem is that I had neither the space nor the money nor the desire to open more holes in the hull to accommodate the 25" width required to go to 12 inch tabs.
Once again, I called Bennett. My thought was to use the existing 22" X 9" tabs and add to them to accommodate for close to the required square inches of tab.
My new tabs are 22" X 18" without the fancy do nothing slant on the original tabe.
The new tabs total 397 sq. in. She handles like a different boat.
No change to the hydraulics nor the attachments to the boat. However, I had a lot of trouble ever getting the bow over with full tabs. With the new ones, the bow is over and plane in 5 seconds.
If you are in the local area, I can put you in touch with my welder. The change out cost me less than $350. As far as I can tell, the change will pay for itself in about 100 hours of running time.
