We have been recently looking at several 420 Sea Ray Aft Cabin models but find very little discussion regarding this model. We like the lay out and curb appeal of this boat. My preference is with Cummins. Can anyone owning this model give me some do's and don'ts regarding the 420, any major problems, etc. We want to costal cruise and trips to Keys and Bahamas with the 420. Is that logical. What are realistic fuel consumptions? We would like to stay in the 99 thru latest model year if affordable. Does anyone know why Sea Ray quit building an aft cabin? Any cored hull problems? Would a 396 Carver be a better choice? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

several friends have them. No cored hull problems with these two. No serious problems at all though I think they are the hardest boats to get on and off ever built and have a poor salon layout. They dont like to go slow because of the weight distribution and prop pockets they make big wakes. Most searays of that era had verypointy bows that gives them marketing length but doesent add useable interior space. Look at the Carver 440 for much more boat in the size range.
Boats of that size range will use near 2 gallons per mile at speed.

Thanks Bruce,
That is the kind of info I am looking for as I have no experience in boats of this size. We do like the Carver line but have not looked at the 440. I will do that on your recommendation.

My dad had the 410 aft cabin ! She was a gas boat ! He truly enjoyed her ! You'll be very happy . The pockets make her a bit of a beast to dock in snot !

True around the docks...........but a pleasure in the Great South Bay. You just need to power up a bit when backin down on the slip.
