Where do you normally go to view the 4th of July fireworks? Do you just go down the Hudson to watch them over NYC or go over to the East River? Trying to get a sense of how long it'll take, whether to drop a hook or come back to the marina (up by Stony Point), etc...

George, I'm not sure about the lower Hudson stuff because its been a decade since I've boated down there. I know Peekskill does some good stuff but some of the other ROs will be better qualified to speak of them than I am...

If you want to travel upriver, Kingston NY usually has great fireworks the Sunday before the 4th. You usually have to reserve space at the Town Dock for an entire weekend, which can be a pain, but there's a lot going on in town, especially if you have kids...

That's soomething I didn't think about, Pete -- thanks! I know the Admiral has her heart set on doing the Macy's 4th, but doing Kingston the weekend before is definitely doable...

You might want to consider a day of so at Liberty Landing. We can see the fireworks from the dock but it is right there if you want to be on the boat in the harbor, the trip back is a few minutes instead of the white knuckle long ride home to Stony Point with all the other boats.

I was thinking that'd be a good option. How much lead time do they need for a request for space at the (a) transit dock?

George, if you go to Liberty Landing you have to reserve for 3 nights. At least that's what they told me! But it sure is a convenient location....good luck.....G

Not sure about the lead time, I do know that it is THE hot spot for NY Harbor and 4th of July. If you are thinking about it don't wait until June. My slip will be open. 50' with view of the Statue.

I wouldn't doubt the 3 day requirement. Seems most places are doing that.

Champlain's on Block Island has a 5 night minimum, prepaid in advance at time of rez.

Liberty Landing sounds really nice - I haven't seen the NYC fireworks since the original OpSail in 1976...

There are a few in the stony point area to be viewed...Bowline, Tarrytown, Piermont, West point, bear mountain, Peekskill.....

They have them on different days so you usually get a weeks worth...I try to post the date and times as I find them out....

If you want to go to Liberty Landing, I'm sure it is a 3 night commitment for that week-end and you better make reservations now. It may already be to late.

Kingston usually has a good show the weekend before the 4th. The town dock is party central if you can get in.

If Liberty gives you a hard time about space let me know and I can call Dan the dockmaster and let him know my slip will be open for you.

Now that's the old HRCC spirit!!

Hey Jonathan, I thought you said I could use your slip?!! Actually when I called to tell them I had a 41 and not the 34 they just said OK, have a nice day[:-baseball] Gotta love the water taxi over to the West side...I wonder what the taxi costs if you miss the last boat back?

Ok, who ever calls in first gets it!!! LOL. Did you call and mention me? Let me know.

I wish the taxi would run a bit later than it does, I guess worst case is you take the other water taxi and then cab it from the Jersey side.

When is the boat coming???

No, I didn't mention your name or slip availability, that was going to be plan B!

Supposed to be here 4/17=168 hours! Probably will go in on Wednesday, shipped without props on, not sure what else has to be done prior to splash...they are flying a mechanic in from Cleveland on Wednesday to help with "delivery." The biggest help would be a trip to the gas dock![:-hspin]

Good news. That is unbelievable service with them flying in a mechanic to go over the boat for you. Incredible.

Show us some pics when you get it.

Looks like my slip can still be used as leverage for anyone else who is going down to Liberty for the 4th.

Jonathan -- thanks for the offer, will have to work out the logistics (quickly, apparently!) And thanks for the info, Butch -- being new to the area we might just hang around Piermont, etc. Time to conference with the Admiral to see what entertainment plans she's dreaming up!

George
