On our way back from L.I. this past Wednesday, (we went around Manhattan) it was such a nice day that we thought we'd stop for lunch at the 79th St. boat basin. We stopped outside the entrance, called on channel 9 to see if we could go in and tie up for lunch. The dockmaster advised us that because it was an outgoing tide that there wasn't enough water in the basin for us to go in. I told him that we only draft about 3', but he was adamant that we do not go in. The tide was running out pretty good but it wasn't near low at that time. I'm wondering how much water they do have in there at low tide. Anyone been there lately?

John, I was there last year. At low tide you start sucking up mud. The place needs some serious work as a marina. Perfect candidate for stimulus money?

Thanks WindDancer. Too bad, only a few blocks from Central Park and the Museums, perfect for a few hours stop on a nice afternoon.

Does Chelesa Pier have a restaurant? What type of food? Lunch, dinner? I've never eaten there except to take a dinner cruise a few years ago?

Chelsea Piers has a few restaurants. Their is a brewery/restaurant right at the marina. The do hit you for a fee for docking. I think last year it was about $3/ft for four(4) hours if you are going to eat.
