Here's a couple more pics. I see what you're saying about access while underway and I didn't notice the paint job! Great observation! Someone's covering up something - could the rust in the engine mount be an indicator of water damage in the bildge? I thought I saw a fold up ladder in others of this kind, but not in this one huh?
yeah, you really don't want to go down those steps while underway... if you send your wife down to get you a beer, better slow down and make sure she makes into the cabin
that saloon is huge for a 40 footer !
that rusty mount is right under the riser/hose connection, maybe there was a leak. the other one look clean so it may not have been due to high water. hard to tell obviously. I'm also curious about that small notch in the stringer where the mount is bolted, with layer of cloth. there is also a rust streak on the stringer just forward of the mount, not sure if that a cable or a hose there...
again, considering the price, you cna't be too picky !
I'd add a hatch to the ceiling in order for the wife to pass up the sandwich before she falls overboard on her way back up...hate to lose a sandwich that way Then again, how often will you honestly be hungry underway?
All boat desings are a trade-off. If you really like the idea of having a salon bigger than a Manhattan apartment, go for it. There's plenty of space on the bridge for outside hanging. If my wife ever wises up and throws me out, this model would make an excellent bachelor's pad.
That boat was built in two different models. The one you are looking at and another that has an aft cabin. The 1989 models didn't seem to have been built with a hatch and ladder going from the salon up to the bridge. The 1990 models have a Bomar hatch and ladder for bridge access. The hatch is about 24 X 24 and is a few inches aft of the starboard entry door. I can post some pictures if anyone is interested but someone will have to give me instructions on how to do it.
Steven,
If you go to photobucket.com, you can open a free account and upload your pictures. They make it really simple to cut and paste a link into your post.
Thanks mintregila for the instructions. There is a wall showing inside of the boat in the top picture that isn't there in the GS version of the boat. In this case it is the wall and counter top that separates the salon and aft cabin.
This looks like the boat listed on E-Bay right now. They got it running and there is a video with audio and it sounds and looks good. They also cleaned up the interior if this is the same boat. I am almost positive it is. Take care. Bill
