We are taking our boat to Pier 39 and were wondering how long it will take us from Pittsburg, running at about 10 knots, to get there? We keep our boat at Discovery Bay and are going to overnight at Pittsburg on the way.

The second question is.....there must be an app for that........does anyone know of a good marine GPS app for an Iphone?

Thanks and I hope you all have been out enjoying your boats this summer.

when are you travelling to Pier 39?
There are Americas Cup races on Tues, Thurs, Sat and Sunday. Some restricted navigation during the races.
Races are from noon to about 1PM. They start restricting about an hour before race.

My slip is at Pier 39. Let me know if you have any questions

In terms of time, that's a pretty long trip at 10 kts. I can make it to Discovery Bay in about 5 hours cruising at 20 kts. Looks like Pittsburgh might be half way, perhaps a little less. I'd count on a good 5 hours.

We have been checking out the race schedule/map and ideally would like to come in early Sunday morning, July 28. We noticed there is a transit zone that should allow us access to Pier 39 if we are running late. Is that the case? When we arrive there come on by.

Thank you

We are taking a group out on Sunday to watch - probably leaving dock around 11am. There is a transit zone that goes across the last leg to the finish line. Not sure how they are handling the transit during the race. That said, its not that far to go around the south end of the Finish line.

We are on F-Dock.

Here's a pick of the Finish line from our slip. So if you can imagine looking out from Pier 39 towards western span of Bay Bridge, its right out there.

also - just so you are prepared, Pier 39 has a good bit of surge, more than other marinas and especially more than what you would be used to at Disc Bay. So, if you are spending the night, you will feel some movement. Really not all that bad, but just don't want you to be surprised. We sleep right through it all the time.
Having some snubbers on your dock lines will help. A lot of the slips have rubber tires hooked to the cleats to act as snubbers. You tie off to the tire instead of the cleat - actually better to pass bitter end through eye on the line to hook line up to tire and then tie off on boat cleat. I can't remember if all the guest slips have them.

We spent the night several times at the guest dock because the kids liked to be close to Pier 39 activities.
The surge was pretty bad and so was the noise of the sea lions but I understand the the sea lions are gone now.
Much better is South Beach Yacht Harbor even if you have to take the street car to go to Pier 39.
