Here is a paste of the first part of an aticle and a link, to an upcomming event regarding the Delta health - it sounds like it might be open to anybody interested - there is a number at the end of the article. Might be a good meeting to attend!

CONGRESSIONAL LEADERS, DELTA GROWERS, ENVIRONMENTALISTS, AND FISHERMEN JOIN TOGETHER TO CHART THE DELTA'S FUTURE
February 19, 2009 -- Restore the Delta, a Delta-based coalition including Delta farmers, environmentalists, everyday citizens, fishermen, business leaders, the faith community, and recreation enthusiasts, is holding a symposium entitled "A Bold Direction: The People's Vision for the Delta" on February 28, 2009. The event will be held at Wine and Roses Hotel in Lodi, California from 8:15 am to 4:45 pm.

Restore the Delta Campaign Director Barbara Barrigan-Parrilla explains, "This is the first time in the Delta's history that Congressional Representatives, including Congressman George Miller (D-Martinez) and Jerry McNerney (D-Pleasanton), will be joining Delta farmers, environmentalists, and fishermen, along with state and county representatives from the Delta, to craft a blueprint for the Delta that reflects the needs of Delta communities and fisheries." At the symposium, attendees will learn about and then be called to action to work on promoting regional water solutions for the state, Delta governance, creation of a Delta conservancy by Delta locals, and creating an organized response to issues of eminent domain in the Delta.

Thanks for posting this!

I wonder if this is just another "dummy" group with motives which are not truly best for the Delta or are they really wanting to improve the situation?

I'd love to hear from any Coastside Fihermen and from yzer on this panel/meeting.....

Here is another link for folks who need to understand more about the issues of the Delta:

http://www.restorethedelta.org/resources_why_restore.php

"Why Restore the Delta?

* Over 700 native species of fish, animals, and plants can be found in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.
* 23 million Californians are dependent on the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta for drinking water.
* The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta is the largest Pacific coast estuary for both North and South America.
* Over 500,000 acres of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta are farmed. Good water quality results in good crops.
* The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta is one of the primary ecological sources of California's $4 billion annual economy......."

This is a partial list......

Flutterby,
Great site! Read all the attached papers, and this one is fantastic - it was a motion approved by the San Juaquin Govt board to officially oppose the building of any new canals, and put in writing their vote to focus on developing alternative water sources and concervation - it's a good read, and fairly short. Bravo to them!
