I need a new tackle box. I have an older Plano satchel style that is quite large. The nice thing is that it holds a ton of stuff and is highly configurable. The bad is it's size and I hate flipping it over to get to the stuff on the other side. It has to be 30x30x6". It's big.

I like the looks of the Plano 44 Magnum (1444), but I'd love to see one in person. Does anyone have any suggestions of a box that holds a lot of stuff, but isn't like carting around luggage? This is all freshwater, my saltwater stuff is in another box.

And Les, I couldn't find the fishing section on BF anymore. Is it gone, or am I just missing it?

Thanks

You have to go through the Electronics door to get to what's left there: http://www.boatfix.com/shop/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=195 . I didn't see any tackle boxes or bags, though.

Maybe something in the Guide Series Bags or Boxes, and the ProLatch Organizers and Stowaways are pretty good. http://www.planomolding.com/tackle/products.asp
My nephew just uses a few handy Plano storage boxes in a backpak that keeps his hands free to carry rods, coolers , etc. . Those boxes come in lots of sizes and configurations.

I dont think there is "ONE" tackle box Steve.
I have a dozen. Three that I use mostly. One 'Cooler' that I use for Catfish stuff. Keeps the Stink inside the cooler. Whew, when you open it on a hot day, it reminds you of digging up a recent corpse.

I have the others organized.
Crappie box is a flip-over, clear plastic box. They get brittle in the sun and have to be re-newed every other year or so.
The Bass box is not exactly cheap, but it has room for a large assortment. It's two layer, but not a flip-over. Both layers open from the top.

The problem is those plastic worms. Some Tackle boxes are melted by those worms.
You'd just about be better off going to yard sales and buying a tackle box that dont show any signs of worm pollution.

My Trout and Salmon stuff I sent up to my kid.
My fly fishing stuff is all hanging in and off of my Fly Vest. If I had my druthers, Fly fishing is what I'd do. But somehow it wont catch Bass or Crappie.
Fly fishing requires only a vest, and small fly boxes.

Thuddie, do you have stripped bass in your waters? Lots of flyfisherman catch them in and around Franks Tract in the Delta. Nice big ones too! They hang out in shallow waters in the weeds/tules. You have to sneak up on them.....quite a challenge, but very rewarding!

I have as many tackle boxes as ol' thudpucker!! Recently, I have been sorting by species for the most part. Being an old bass fisherman, my habits have changed and I am finding myself to be more of a multi-species kind of guy. Also, being docked on Erie, I have come more to use planer boards for walleye. But, I've never given up on panfish in all of my experiences. Something about perch, crappie and bluegill deep fried in a beer batter with onion rings, cornbread, baked beans,.....

I am using Plano's storage boxes for much of my equipment now. They are compartmentalized and easy to store. They come in various sizes and don't cost an arm and a leg.

Yes Ma'am, we have the accursed Stripers in our lake.
Rumor has it that they have eaten all the Crappie and Bream fry.
I catch more Stripers than Bass. I quit taking Stripers home as they are mushey and tastless.

I have a small tackle box for Crappie. Clear plastic, see-through stuff that usually only lasts one season. It gets brittle and the latches snap off. They are cheap enough to swap out each year.

A much larger double decker for Bass. It has Smoked-glass plastic. It's a Plano and about five years old now and shows no sign of deteriation.

And a Cooler full of stinky stuff for Cat's. You gotta keep a lid on that stuff. wheweeeooo!
I should have a Fishng yard sale. I have a large Apple box full of stuff, and a stack of those older tackle boxes, some with stuff in them. I'll never use any of that stuff agian in my whole life.
