A Holding Tank Question

Had a similar problem last year. Tried SEW CLEAN, google it for location. Worked really well on pipes & tank

For those who have suggested ice, have anyone one of you actually tried that?

There are only two possible ways you're going to get ice in the tank.... One would be through the pump out and two would be through the head itself. Since ice floats, how can you add it through the pump out? How is ice going to make it through the joker/duckbill valves?

I don't understand this one....

Most holding tanks have access on the top. Ex. mine has a large screw in plug that houses my tank level indicators. Not the easiest to get to but it can be done. Unscrew the plug and dump in the ice. I have not tried it but I have accessed the tank and used an old hose (you don't want to use that hose after that for anything other than this nasty job) to rinse and flush the holding tank. Be sure to wear gloves and I would advise wearing goggles. You never know what could happen when the water start spraying and misting.

If you have an access hole in the top, you don't need to try ice. Use a nozzle on a hose to "blast" ant accumulated sludge loose, they pump it out and do it over and over until it's "clean". With a big enough hole, a brush and/or scraper can be used.

I don't think most tanks have an access hole. Mine did not. I cut one to fit a screw in access plate about six inches in diameter. I did what I posted above because my "sense through the tank wall" sensors were being fooled by solids on the tank walls.

I am betting your tank sensor is incorrectly calibrated or broken... I would remove and clean it first. Then try and fill.

The best method I have had for clearing sludge is dumping a gallon at a time of boiling water after the tank is pumped, heck flush it through the head. It will clean and moisten everything up.
