Hi all –

I think this might be my first post to the SFBC forum. I've been to SoFL and the Keys several times, but never gone boating there. The admiral and I are thinking of trailering our boat to SoFL for about a week, probably some time next fall.

Our boat is a cuddy style, about 25 feet long. We would likely want to sleep ashore each night in hotels/motels, and launch each day, making day trips with the boat. I have read posts on here (especially Pascal's) about the many interesting places to go in the upper Keys......Boca Chita, No Name Harbor, Sands Key, Elliot Key, and all the other “Sand Bar Hopping", etc.

So, the question is: Where are the good local boat ramps, and are there any local marinas or storage places that will let us (for a fee) store our boat (on the trailer) in the evenings while we are at the motel/hotel?

Also, we will be making a 8 or 9-day trip (without the boat) to SoFL this spring in early April, and staying the first 5 days in the South Beach area (Raleigh Hotel). For the final few days of the trip, we were thinking we could do a little “research",…..checking out ramp locations, temporary boat parking / storage facilities, etc……. Basically a little advance research for a possible fall trip with the boat. Getting tips from you all in advance would be great.

Any and all tips and advice are welcome.

Thanks!

Glenn

in the keys there are many hotels with their own ramps, you may want to look into that. some have docks where you coudl even tie up.

around miami, storage/parking is an issue especially on weekends, it gets crowded.

Crandon Park Marina on Key Biscayne has storage (fenced in area) but i'm not sure if they handle short term. Blackpoint marina (south miami, near homestead) may also have storage, it's a good launching point for Boca Chita, Eliott and even the upper keys)

Thanks Pascal. During our upcoming trip in April, I'll check out Crandon Park Marina and BlackPoint Marina, and I'll ask them about permission and rates for storage and/or ramp use.

I know where Crandon Park is located, but I'm not sure about Blackpoint. Is Blackppoint all the way down to Homestead, or is it between South Miami and Homestead, such as in Perrine or Cutler Ridge?

Thanks!
