I have been around boats all my life but new to the cruiser world (had deck boats, run abouts, etc. until now). I am looking @ a year 2000 Wellcraft 3300. The twin engines only have 150 hours on them and the generator only has 9 hours on it! I drove it out on the water today and it seemed to handle pretty well. I noted there are a couple of spots where the gell coat or fiberglass has cracked or formed what looked like a popped bubble. None of these appeared to be structural in nature...more like just little things maybe that could be fixed with a patch of gelcoat. They were located @ the inside of one of the window frames and then again around the gas and/or water cap at the side of the boat. None were near the waterline whatsoever.
Does anyone have any experience or advice in regards to the Wellcraft brand? what is their reputation? I am familiar with the other models such as regal, sea ray, four winns, monterey, cobalt, bayliner, etc. but since Wellcraft no longer makes cruisers, i am not sure how good they are or how well they stand up to time.
THis boat has twin true inboards. One other question i have will show my stupidity!
There were essentially 4 throttles on the dash, in two groups of two. Is one for forward and reverse on each engine and then one for rpm/power for each engine? All the other 30' or less boats i have driven have only had but 2 "throttles" for their twin engines.
Two things it doesn't have is an extended swim platform off the back and a sunpad up on the front platform. I would like both of these but am not sure if i can find anything as an aftermarket product. Also, the sunpad area doesn't have snaps but the mechanic who showed it to me said it would be easy to install new snaps.
I have checked the used values and this one seems to be a very good price for a boat with extremely low hours.
What do you all think? Are these good boats? It is between this and a brand new 2006 regal 27' i have found. I really like the regal but boy, the bigger boats sure feel nice!!
