thanks
Al

Looks like a nice place (on Marinas.com), but the season seems rather short, no?

yes i is a little short but more than enough i just hope it has deep water. i was at stony point last year and that shortend my season waiting for high tide. LOL
good luck there this year
Al

In the past, low tide at Alpine made Stony Point look like a deep water port!

If they have dredged, you should be fine, if not, prepare on long waits.

You're right -- starting to wonder if I should just turn the damn boat into a amphibious vehicle!

George

All kidding aside, you will be fine. You just have to learn to read a tide chart and plan on not coming or going 2.5 hours before to 2.5 hours after low tide. Annoying but doable. Every 3rd or 4th weekend you have to be in early on Sunday or plan on staying late. Some people just don't have the flexibility or patience to live by those rules and thus they get ticked and leave.

If the place didn't go thru so many BS changes with management we would most likely still be there.

Thanks, rommer -- and I'm really not whining, just a bit frustrated that marinas in general wouldn't be doing more maintenance-wise. After all, like someone said (I think you!)-- a marina with no water is a parking lot. Bummed that I have to worry about it more than anything else -- guess I got spoiled down south. I've got the charts, I can supposedly draft as little as 2', and our nature is to make the best of everything, so we'll be fine. Just another learning experience!

George, if you have I/O's you should not have an issue with the low water at SPBC. When the tide is low just bring your drives up and go real slow. Be sure to stay in the channel. It may take a few extra minutes each way but it can be done. While deep water like at Haverstraw would be nice, the fellow boaters (Not mgt. Rommer before you jump on me) we have here are tops. Now if you have inboards then it can be a different story..... Welcome to SPBM....

Even with I/O's low tide can be a problem. Depends on where you slip is located. regalal has IO's and he had major issues getting to his slip all the way in at G dock. I have a friend on the first finger at G dock and he won't go out at low tide. Even thou he can trim up he still stirs up major mud. Don't want that getting sucked into the engine.

BUT your very right about most of the people that boat there. Will miss that part for sure.

SPBM, I've been there for 4 seasons, the water is becoming an issue, also the condition of the docks are getting very poor. There back door fees, are starting to bug people, We don't mind paying for service, but we do mind paying for no service, such as water and rudenes.
I can speak for 8 boatowners that have been close touch, if things don't change for the better, we will give our money elsewhere.
Our money is our money, who we give it to is our choice.
The future will tell.

Rommer is 100% correct last was my rookie year of boat ownership. and learning to dock and worrying about if i had enough water under the boat was a real pleasure but i to try and make the best of things. the poeple at the marina were all fantastic. being a new boater i did not even know how to handle the trailer to drop her in the water.
long story longer i put in a post here saying i was willing to pay someone to help me get her in the water and give me a driving lesson. almost immediatly frank who had a boat over on d dock posted a reply that he would help me free of charge. i have plenty of other good stories about about the fine boaters at SPM. i will miss them as well.

Wayne, we have been at SPBC going on 13 seasons. I am aware that the slips close to shore are more of a parking lot that a boaters haven. With all the people leaving maybe Al could ask for a "better location".

Now what is the story behind the special meeting on Sunday to discuss our club and the future of the clubhouse?? Anyone know the facts on this? I also heard that the property has been sold to Wayne from next door..... Lots of rumors...

The one thing the guys from Stone Harbor told me was that there'd be great people boating in SPBM. Nice to see that (have noticed it through the threads as well). Thanks to all!
