Ok I got the election package, let me share my thoughts.
Bruce Beck,
Says he has a five year plan for redevelopment or renovation of the AYC, sounds good or maybe not, since he did not share his plan this statement means nothing.
Bruce is for the plan of spending 100k to renovate the bathrooms in the main building, although a new septic tank would be a good idea, the thought of spending 100k is crazy, do you have a 100k into your own bathrooms?.
Bruce wants to set up a website so we can all be connected to current issues, to that I say good idea.
So Bruce, you have been on the board for 3 years, and (based on your letter) you have zero accomplishments, just ideas.
In Short Bruce’s letter has zero reasons (other than a website) why we should vote for him, with that said; he gets zero votes from me.
Joseph Mammolito (seeking his 10th term)
I know Joe a little bit; IMO a very nice guy who truly cares about our club, Joe can always be seen helping out around the club (donates a lot of his time for mundane tasks).
IMHO, Joe has made some good improvements around the club, but he is for the renovation of the bathrooms at a cost of 100k, therefore Joe will not get my votes.
John Burns,
Johns letter to us has very little content, John’s letter implies he has saved us money on all of the work done around the Marina, to that I say Thank You, but that alone does not deserve my vote. Also, for the record, I would hope that anyone elected to the board would shop prices and get us the best price for any work that is needed.
Mark Hood,
New comer that asks some good questions:
What has the Board done to address the issues of the owners in the last several years?
How confident are you in the security of your boat and its content?
Are the board members approachable and receptive to your needs?
Has the board become complacent and unreceptive to your needs?
Bravo Mark,
You have the pulse of the members of this club and have demonstrated to me that you are aware of our problems. Although your letter is short and you are aware of our concerns you did not take the time to tell us how you plan on changing this. If Ed Kimmmerling was not running I would vote for you.
Ed Kimmerling ,
Now here my fellow member is a man that lists his accomplishments, identifies current problems and has a plan that he shared in his well written 2 page letter. His letter demonstrates he is a mover and shaker and is not afraid to call a spade a spade.
Some of Ed’s accomplishments:
1. Renovation of the condo office, for a few grand he cleaned up the office and made it look more professional, IMHO, the more professional look will increase the value of our slips, for 2k or so this was a no brainier.
2. Renovated the guard booth: I don’t see what he did nor know what the cost was.
3. Spruced up the pool area, bought new Tiki umbrellas at the end of the season at a 50% discount and repainted the pool.
4. With one phone call, he got us 5% interest on our money market as opposed to the 1.25% we were getting.
5. Replaced our maintenance man and out sourced it, this resulted in a 40% savings.
Ed, going forward:
1. Clean up and enforce the rules in respect to the abuse of True North , on D dock.
2. Stop the board from raising our maintenance fees 10% for that 100k bathroom renovation, Ed’s solution will cost us 5k.
3. Stop the commodore from dictating what contractors we can use, we have the right to use any one we see fit as long as insurance requirements are met.
4. “Hot spots” with our docks have been brought to the board’s attention by our dock builder; this is a priority that needs to be addressed.
5. The commercial unit has offered to redevelop the entire front entrance with a gated guard’s booth, a vehicle entrance and exit and a separate entrance for heavy vehicles (boat trailers). They are willing to complete this project at cost but this has fallen on deaf ears. As Ed said: I WANT MY POTTY FIRST.
Ed has all of my 172 votes, I don’t know Ed, but he has taken the time to tell us what he has done and what he will do, none of the other candidates have done that.
