vic, i have a raritan model 85b508-1 that had quit working. checked freon and it was very low, added some, got suction to 4psi running, about 28psi off, put new control module on and
she is up & running, dumping ice about every 20
minutes. now the only problem is the ice in the
bucket is slowing melting, like it is not quite cold enough, but still making ice.
any suggestions? unit is clean, fan running &
everything else seems fine.
where should freon pressure be, am i a little off?
thank
terry

Actually, you're right on - on a Model 85, the suction line operating pressure after about 10 minutes of running, should be 4 PSI. As the machine cools down, the pressure should start dropping, until right before it shuts off to eject the cubes, it should be right at zero.

But if it were I, I'd "goose it" just a little with a short shot or two of R134a - maybe bring it up to about 6 PSI after 10 minutes of running. Also, put a thermometer inside to check the box temperature. It shouldn't come much above 32 degrees inside the cabinet, even during the harvest cycle, when the cubes are ejecting. Most of the time it should be around 10 degrees inside the box.

thanks, will give it a little shot & check temp. what the highest
pressure it should read not running
thanks for reply

just gave it a little shot, 6psi after 10 min running.
will have to get t'meter, with unit off it running about
30 psi

That should do it! With the machine shut off and the high side pressure working back to the low side, the balance pressure should be somewhere in the 25-35 PSI range. So it sounds like all is well.

Vic, thanks for the help. unit is now working perfect, really
making ice faster than it ever has. unit is dumping every 20min.
and bottom is staying well below 30
thanks again

Terry, enjoy it, and have a great weekend. Just keep an eye on it, because if the "juice" leaked out of it, it has a slow leak somewhere, and will likely need periodic recharging.

A batch of cubes every 20 minutes is about the best you can do with it.
