Ok....with my new-to-me 89 Santego, I thought the yellowish orbs above the ignition switches were light that should come on when the ignition is turned on (but never did because I assumed the bulbs were burned out) but upon recent closer inspection, I discovered that are are actually miniature push buttons under the flexible rubber covers. I thought maybe they were temporay bypasses for the buzzer alarms but they dont seem to have any affect on the buzzers. Ramsport....come on down!!!!!...and 'splain what these push button switches are for....or anyone else that might know. I feel so inferior.

Yep...circuit breakers for the ignitions. The covers started out clear but have yellowed from the sun.
 
OK.....I guess I need further edumication. None of my previous Carvers had these circuit breakers. Are they protecting the ignition switches themselves and if so, why do they need protection? Wouldn't the breaker on the power supply to the helm be sufficient? It scares me the more I find out how much I don't know.
 
I got a whole panel of them on my 2007 boat.
Mine are all black, look like the bulb on a eye dropper.

So whats the difference between a fuse and a circuit breaker?
My guess is a fuse blows and a circuit breaker pops.
And the pop can be reset by pressing the black bulb?
I have had to push the one for my bilge once after i left it on over night.

Yes one pops and the other blows. (Much like....never mind)

But there are other differences as well. Types of loads they are used to protect, how fast they respond, etc., etc.

Correct, push the button to reset.
 
Our '89 Santego has 2 plastic shelled orange lights above the ignition which do come on when we start the engines and remain on until we get moving (usually go off at 1100 or so RPM's). To the right of the ignition are 2 black toggles which after 4 yeasr we're still not sure what they do. From your picture, it looks like you may have one toggle?? If you figure that one out, let me know.
 
Georgian Bay. The 2 orange lights are most likely the warning lights for the transmission oil pressures. It is OK for them to stay on at low RPMs but they should go out above 1100 rpm. If they do not go out at higher RPM you should stop and find out why.
