What kind of antifreeze do you guys use for the engine block?

Automotive. The pink stuff does not have any rust inhibitors.
 
Do not use automotive antifreeze unless it is inviromentaally safe. The pink is OK to use (don't mix with any water) in the engine block for winter storage.
 
Using the "automotive stuff" is irresponsible. Use the "boat stuff" and you will kill less "marine stuff" in the spring, not to mention save some "$ stuff".

Sorry to disagree but any automotive NON-TOXIC AF is OK.... its the same as the "boat stuff" you recommend. I pretty much stuck with Sierra and mixed it 50/50 with cheap windshield washer fluid.
 
For storage, the pink non-tox is also fine -- it has corrosion inhibitors. Or, at least the pink stuff I use has corrosion inhibitors.
 
I agree with Mike, same stuff. Propylen Glycol is used in the low tox automotive just as it is in the pink stuff. The problem with the pink is if just a little water gets in it it reduces the burst point quit a bit.
 
I just did my engines with the Pink Stuff. Got a 5 gallon jug and put a shut off valve on it.....................filled it with 5 gallons of straight "Pink Stuff" ............hooked up the water line to the muffs..................let the engine run about 15 minutes.........watched the temp. gauge and saw that it sat steadily at 140 degrees ...................switched the lines from water to the Anti-Freeze Jug..........opened the valve and let the entire 5 gallons run through being careful to not TOTALLY empty the jug. Pink Stuff was running out the exhaust VERY Pink so I assume I have it all covered. Did the same for the other engine...............I guess I"ll find out in the spring if all is well.
 
drain some out of the block and test it to see if "you have it all covered". We had some people make that assumption last fall. They weren't happy about the cracked blocks in the spring!
 
You should still drain the engine first and then run it through. The blue is better. -100 burst and it water gets in it it can be mixed 50/50 and still have a burst of -50.
 
Any AF...propylene glycol(pink) or ethelyne glycol(auto) is toxic. The R/V pink is proclaimed to be "low tox"...but it's toxic nonetheless! Handle all AF the same way and DO NOT discharge into the water tables.
 
André, Are you in salt or fresh water? I'm assuming you are talking about a raw water cooled engine. For my RWC fresh water (Lake) engine I disconnect the cooling hoses, remove the block and manifold plugs, let the water drain, then pour in non-toxic AF till it runs pure from all the drains. The AF purges any water left in the engine. Let the AF continue to drain and replace the hoses and plugs. The way I look at it air does not freeze. Salt water corrosion may be another issue requiring filling the block with AF.
 
If after warming up the engine too operating temp and shutting her down to drain the block, could the thermostat close before you could hook the muffs back up and pump the pink though?

yup, that's how you don't get enough anti-freeze in the block.

I was thinking on doing the same thing as Tanqueray this year, but was going to drain the block first..What if I remove the Thermostat...Will it be ok then?...
 
The mechanic who tought me (RWC 4.3L) Would remove the thermostat and run in the A/F. He used automotive stuff but I later used Pink. In the spring just put in a new thermostat.

I have trouble getting to a couple of drain plugs. I usually drain as much as I can and then do the pink water flush.
