Any Dockside 500 customers?

While I was away on vacation, I heard that my marina in Glen Cove was sold to the same company that owns Dockside 500. Of course, there is alot of panic at the dock but nobody really knows what direction the place will take.

Any feedback from someone at Dockside would be helpful.

All I can say is this......

The old man that sold out dockside was a real good guy. He was a customer (phone system) he thought it was a good thing and had no bad words to say about the new ownwers.

Here is what I read between the lines..... We have a player that is going to scoop up real estate... end result to you is: improvemrents to your marina , at increased costs.....

Don't know your marina so this may be good or bad.........

My marina needs a lot of improvement but we put up with it for the lower rates we have been paying. Hopefully, we do get something back if we have to pay more.

Since we are only summer customers, I'm hoping that we are able to renew. If not, I may need to move to the south side.

I keep my boat over at dockside. Not too much to report on the new owners yet. All planned improvements I've heard about seem like good ideas and the rumor is rates will only be going up 3-5% per foot next season, which is pretty much in line with increases in years past. I don't think you have any reason to panic(yet!)
 
When I first heard about the sale at Dockside, I got pretty nervous...I checked out the company's website and the links to their other marinas (mostly in the South). I only found out this: the company is run by real estate folks, they don't even mention whether they are boaters. And, the marinas they own in the South appear to be upscale -- not your typical boatyard.
So far, the best thing they've done at Dockside is put out real bouys in our channel. Being a safety-first kind of capt., I'm loving having my way home lit up at night.
Oh, and they had coffee and bagels for us last Saturday...too anxious to get out, so we didn't take advantage.
They are certainly moving fast buying up 2 marines in the same season...hope they've got healthy cash flow...
 
Thanks. I've looked at their website but it isn't very insightful into what they will be like to deal with. The marina needs alot of improvement but we have enjoyed relatively low rates beause of that. Their service department is also terrible so I'm hoping this will all be for the better.

My only worry is that I'm not a winter storage customer so I don't know how I will be treated. Under the old ownership, I would sign a contract and prepay the following summer season in October before I left. That way I was assured of a renewal. I guess the next month or so will tell.

I HAVE A SLIP AT DOCKSIDE 500 AND IT SEEMS THAT LONG -TIME CUSTOMERS ARE "CONCERNED" ABOUT VMG. SO FAR, ALL PICNIC TABLES REMOVED FROM DOCK ,ANY SHADE TARPS TAKEN DOWN. PLUS SIDE-50 AMP ELECTRIC TO BE INSTALLED ALL SLIPS,WATER TO BE MOVED AND MAYBE SOME REPAIRS. IF YOU LOOK AT VMG WEBSITE IT SEEMS THEY WANT TO MAKE IT MORE UPSCALE. RIGHT NOW LOOKING AROUND, THE MARINA IS AT A POINT WHERE IT COULD USE SOME IMPROVEMENTS-BUT THAT USUALLY MEANS MORE $$$. WILL HAVE TO WAIT & SEE. ANOTHER PLUS- SEVERAL BOATS GROUNDED JUST OUTSIDE ENTRANCE AND CONCERNS VOICED TO MANAGEMENT RESULTED IN CHANNEL BEING MARKED BY SERIES OF RED AND GREEN BUOYS- ALOT BETTER THAN PAINTED STICKS.
 
I am a summer only customer at Dockside. I have not heard anything about renewals for next season. Did anyone get a 2008 contract yet? I hope that I dont have to winterize there in order to get a slip???
 
Sonny, I'm a year round customer and haven't received my contract either. The manager said they're waiting for the lawyers to go over them before mailing them out.
 
I'm a summer customer at Glen Cove Marina. They allowed me to sign a summer 2008 contract that reserves my spot and were happy to take my check for next season. I expect that I will be getting the "permanent" summer agreement when the lawyers are done with it.

So far, higher rates and alot of promises. It all sounds good but we'll see.
