Any kid friendly places in October?

I'm planning on taking the boat out for the day on Sunday with the wife and 13 yr. old son. He's a real water rat and loves the beach, but I'm sure its not going to be beach weather on Sun. He's already complaining that he'll have nothing to do. I just can't think of a good place to go that will have stuff for him to do without going in the ocean. Any suggestions will be much appreciated. Oh, and I go out of Lindenhurst, so its the south shore for me.
 
If you are looking for a bit of a cruise, about an hour or so, the run to Freeport Nautical Mile is a good one. Lots of kid friendly places to eat, mini golf and a park at the N end.
