I'm planning on going to the Sac Jazz fest in May. This will be my first boat trip into the delta on my own boat. I just realized that all of my other trips have been to SF Bay, Sausalito, Angel Island, Oakland etc.

Is anyone else going???

Wayne,

I'm not sure what your plan is. Many boaters boat in to the Sacramento Yacht Club for the weekend, but I believe that you have to be a member of a PICYA affiliated club. Another option is to stay at the municipal dock in Old Town (this is my favorite because you can walk back and forth to the venues), but you have to put your name into a lottery for the space. You may be fortunate though, because your boat is probably low enough to get on the inside where it is usually easier to get reservations. One warning though, at that time of year, the current will be running fast. As you enter the inside area, be prepared for the substantial push from the current and don't be afraid to use some throttle. We had a friend get pushed downstream into the barge and did a little damage to his boat. Another option is to anchor up in the American River and dinghy down to the Old Town dock. As you enter the American River, don't forget about the wing dam coming from the upstream side of the bank. The end of it is marked with a small unlit buoy and you'll want to go between this buoy and the beach. You can usually squeeze a dinghy in between some of the larger boats and they don't charge you. I would bring a padlock and cable to secure the dink while your gone, especially at night if you stay for dinner.

The Jazz Jubilee is a fun event and we usually go every year, but this year we're meeting camping friends down at Windmill Cove. I also hear that Lost Isle hopes to be open again by Memorial Day. Have a great time and give us a report.

Thanks for the info. There is a yacht club that I am considering joining that goes to this event every year. I've been in contact with the Commodore and I'm trying to see if they will let me get a feel for the club by attending this raft up.

That's great Wayne! Which club are you thinking of joining? The nice thing about the Jazz Jubilee cruise in to Sacramento Yacht Club, is that you get a chance to meet and socialize with members from so many different yacht clubs in the Bay Area and Delta. You don't even need to leave the club as there is almost non-stop entertainment there. We prefer the actual Jazz Jubilee in Old Town and it is so nice to be able to walk up from your boat, listen for a while and then return with friends old and new to enjoy a cocktail or two on the boat. In either case, you'll have a great time!

I stayed at the Sacramento Yacht Club and they are fantastic and very friendly people and from the club it's easy to get a cab to the Old Town (by dinghy it's a long ride).
The Club is very popular and you have to reserve early. We also stayed at the Riverbank Marina which is new with nice restaurants and just a short dinghy ride to the Old Town.

My parents belonged to Ebony Boat Club when I was a kid and I went to a lot of raft ups with them. Now I'm 33 and own my own boat so Im looking forward to joining the club.

absoloot, we will be staying dockside at windmill cove, fri, sat, and sunday night. we will be in an ebbtide 2500 midcabin. stop by and say hi!

Wayne,

Ebony Boat Club is a great group of boaters. I have enjoyed meeting many folks from the club and I now have to wonder who your parents are. I wonder if I met them?

TecDady,
We too will be staying dockside along with several other friends. My understanding is that they are going to put us the end of the docks that are parallel to the fuel dock. Our boat name is Wanderlust and its a 48' Californian. Please come by and share a lemonade or two. We'll also have a bunch of friends staying up in the group camping and we'll be spending a bit of time up there. I'll keep an eye out for you and stop by too.

I am not sure how active they have been as members lately but they have a 34' Trawler "Luv Tug". Wayne and Patsy Phillips.

If I ever joined another boat club, it would be EBC. In about 2003 or so, at an Ebony dinner, I was voted the winner of the James Brown Karaoke conest. Singing a song I had never heard before. Trust me folks, no one else would ever vote for my singing.

old sac remember to lock your boat to the dock and keep the canves up a t night people try to go on the boats for a pic who dont belong there

happens every time i go there

i think ill go to folsom lake that weekend
