When spring comes and before I put my boat in my slip, I want to make sure slip is clean. So I think I need a grappling hook to throw down and drag my slip every foot or so length wise

Anyone have one I can use?

Thanks.

I think that it would be worth your money to chip in with your neighborrs to pay a diver to check all the slips on your dock. I can only imagine what you would find after what you guys went through. I'll bet the diver will pay for himself with valuables found or damage avoided.

I think marina is hiring a diver to do just that but I want to check for myself and drag bottom.
He may only find big stuff on top where there can be hidden hazards.
Water is not the clearest.

Diver would probably be your best bet...but thinking about it, get a length of chain and have a welder make enuff to hang a hook every foot or so. Toss a line to the other side of your slip and walk the chain hooks at different depths.

You could go a prospectin' for OB's 'n stuff.[:P]

Dave, I have one somewhere. Will dig it out when you're ready.

Jim's got a good idea. A grappling hook is hit or miss; a diver can go over every inch of the slips. You might even find some equipment which would pay the cost of the diver. Keep in mind, you may find some heavy stuff sitting on the bottom. If so, then you'll have to figure out how to get it out of there. Good luck, and, just out of curiosity, let us know what, if anything, the diver finds. Hy

Maybe a couple of extensions rigged on to a rake?

I wonder if you ran a small boat with a fish/depth finder thru your slip. I have seen some that show everything thats on the bottom.
Hey, you might find your dock nox.

I actually have a large aluminum landscapers rake. I can use that in my dinghy. Again there will be a diver but I am looking to do a gut check.
Thanks.

A surface air diver walking the bottom of your slip will be your best bet. While he is on location have him walk the approach to your slip. A couple of yards of carpet washed out of someone's home during Sandy will not be well received by your IPS drives.

If you use a grappling hook, make sure you have a rope on the non pulling side, so you can pull it backwards if it gets stuck. Don't ask me why I know this.

I have something that will work. Its a series of extra large treble hooks (6"-8") used for dragging the bottom. They connect to a bar by chains. Rope connects to the bar. toss the bar out and let it drag across the bottom. if the trebles find anything they will snag it and not let go. Not good for small debris but anything bigger than a shoe will become snagged.

just got to get it out of storage when you're ready.

Billy,
I think that's called freeing the grappling hook back to the wild. Good for you...catch and release.
hahahaha

You can make one out of rebar for next to nothing, for the purpose you are using it for.

Hey, I'm a certified diver with equipment, anyone think there is anything of value to find? After all this time in the water?

I am missing a dock box, neighbors are missing stuff too.
I don't want the dock box back, just don't want it in my slip!!
It contains 20 gallons of pink stuff, they should be fine, that is $60. Some stainless fishing rod holders, those are pricey and should be fine.
Anything stainless can be cleaned up.
Anything plastic just needs to be washed.
If you are willing to dive my slip, I will let you keep anything we pull up (unless it's a treasure chest full of gold!)
If you use tanks, I will pay for your air. I know some guys have those surface things.

Let's talk in the spring! I will throw in dinner/drinks too!

Just want my slip clear of debris!

I am sure others will do it as well.

Sounds good, I better start going to the gym so I can fit in my dive suit! Don't know what the pink stuff is, but I'll make room for that too! I will try and remember to get it done, does the marina have any problems with divers on the site? I'm sure if I can get my buddy to fit in his suit that we can give it a good sweep... Thats a big if...
