I recently attended a conference in Tahoe where this was discussed. Any of you who may happen to be in Tahoe at the time are more than welcome to come.

This is a friendly reminder that a Lake Tahoe Watercraft Inspection and Decontamination training will be held next Tuesday, May 15th from 10am to 3pm at the Tahoe Keys Marina in South Lake Tahoe, California. Below is the link with directions for your information. This is a free training hosted by the Tahoe Resource Conservation District, Lake Tahoe Basin Weed Coordinating Group, Americorps, and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency. For logistical reasons registration is required. For more information don't hesitate to contact me directly by email or at the number listed below. If you are unable to attend but are able to assist with advertising that would be greatly appreciated!

What is the current status of Franks Tract? Is the weed abatement working?

Yes. I was out there on May 9th and we are starting to see the bleaching on the tips of the plants. This is an indicator that the application is starting to work. It will be a while before we can tell just how effective the treatment has been. Thanks for the interest. I will be out again some time this week and will take some pictures for you if I remember to do so.
 
Aaaaaa Ha! I have some of that weed caught on a piling adjacent to my slip on Piper Slough. I noticed this weekend that the weed had an unusual color on the ends. I thought it was pollinating or some such thing.

I guess it did work....will have to work on cropping the photos. The treatment that we use inhibits the formation of carotene. Without carotene, the chlorophyll is degraded by sunlight. This is the pinkish hue you are starting to see in the plants.
 
Yup, that is the way "my" weed looked, but the lack of carotene had taken effect further down the plant too.
 
Good...that is what we want to see. Thanks for the information. I will keep all updated when I get news. I will share what I learn in Tahoe tomorrow when I come back. A large anmount of boaters from the Bay- Delta use the lake according to the survey I have seen. We want to keep our weeds out of Tahoe, and vice versa with theirs. I was encouraged about the fact that they are considering the use of chemicals to control their problem weeds. No one wants to see chemicals added to waterways, but the reality is it is the only thing that works right now and the alternatives are much worse. I will post what I find out and share with all.
 
Hey, nice background to the photo! I'm not sure if that's non-skid or some long-lost tapioca pudding, but it does have an interesting texture....

I would love to say I was being creative.....but I must fess up, it is indeed non-skid.
