NatGeo:
Asian carp, Big head and Silver are multiplying faster than the native species.
Making them jump into your boat is no trick. Just make some noise.

The problem of too many for the U.S. Rivers and eventually the whole Canadian system as well can easily be solved.

Turn the Animal food processors loose on em'!
They'll organize the Gill Netters and have the 'sorters' (like they do in AK) throw back any native species.

Put out a no-limit-no-license needed statment about the two Carp species.
The Show pointed out the good texture and eatablility of them.
Yum.....let's eat them before they get all our Native fish!

A little People involvment and it wont take long to bring the Carp species down to 'handlin' size.

I said to use them as fertilizer when the problem first came to light. I'm REALLY surprised no one has looked into it. Sounds like there's millions to be made.

Maybe the program I saw was from way back, and they might be doing that now.
I've never eaten a Carp, but then I've never eaten a fish that was'nt pretty good either.
Maybe they could change the name a bit.
Like the srcap fish off the South America Coast. They Changed the name to: "Finian Haddie" and it began to sell.

Thuddie- Finan haddie is smoked haddock , a darn good eating fish. Were you perhaps thinking of the Patagonian toothfish, now widely marketed as Chilean Sea Bass?

I suppose if they changed the carp name to cavorting river cod or swordlessfish or similar the market value might ramp up a bit in the US.

Sandy modern marketing systems are geard to sell you something. One way or the other. Coyote Fur is referred to as "Western Wolf"!
I read that bit about Finian Haddie.
It's a Yellow colored meat. Are we talking about the same thing?

I dunno Thud, Finnan Haddie has been around longer than both of us together: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finnan_Haddie

The fresh cod fillets are certainly not yellow but smoked cod may be. I catch cod and love to eat it. But I've never smoked it, only several other kinds of fish, mostly bluefish, some tunas, striped bass, white marlin/skillie (long ago: delicious), bay scallops, mussels.

If it's not smoked and it turns yellow it may be time to think about getting back out & catching fresher fish ,.... or not fishing now in the lower Hudson River below the burned out sewage treatment plant! :D

If you cannot control the species, feed it to someone. I like it, and remember the
early suggestions.

Thud, The only impediment to this rational solution are the bureaurats, that do not
want a solution, and hate any real business effort. There can be thousands of
junk-science reasons for not harvesting these trash fish.

I mean you might miss your tax paid airplane ride to Calif this week.
