Hi,

I installed two Atlantes Freedoms with fresh water flush and internal venting loops on my boat about 18 months ago. All the hoses were replaced about 4 years ago (white hoses) when a new plastic holding tank was installed. Everything worked very well but lately I am starting to get a rotten eggs smell when the toilets are flushed. Only when flushed. I also see dark flush water backing up into one of the toilets after 20 or so minutes. I can not see any leaks and the hoses do not smell as far as I can tell.

I emptied and flushed the holding tank twice and blew out several times the vent hoses but no significant change.

I use a shot of K.O. at every flush which seems to help a bit but you can still smell the eggs. It lasts for about 5 minutes and then the smell is gone.

Anybody has any ideas?

Thanks,
David

Do you have a charcoal filter in your vent lines? It sounds like your vent is clogged.

My Atlantes toilet was bubbling after a flush. It was worse if the holding tank was close to full. I replaced a single 1/2" vent line with two 1 1/2" vent lines; one on either side of the boat. Problem solved. Also, you need to do a long flush once in a while to clear the lines between the head and the holding tank. When we're on the hook a long time, we tend to flush the toilet in short flush cycles to conserve holding tank space. If you have "dark flush water backing up", I would think that you are not flushing long enough to clear the lines.

I agree with everything Mark said. Plus, it's a good idea to change out the joker valves in the heads once a year.
