I like the reservation idea.

Also be cool if us non-residents can dock.
We need more marinas!
 
As a town resident , I hate the idea. I will be there on the 24th voicing my opinion. It's just sucks that they hold the board meetings at 2pm on a weekday. Really limits public input.
 
How hard is it to get in to the harbor? I have heard in the past that it was a bit dangerous with a deeper draft. I draft 4.5" and I haven't been there in many years but it might be a nice place to spend a week at a reasonable price.
 
No issue getting in or out.
Plenty of Trojans on south shore.
 
FB is on fire with pissed off Residents. Everyone wants to keep their piece of paradise and keep outsiders out . I get it .

The place was packed. They no longer will be offering seasonal docking for $6k. They rolled back the start of online reservations to 6/1. We'll see what happens.

It will be interesting. I wonder if the seasonal $6K slips were factored into the city budget already?

I'll have to watch the progress from BE for two reasons.

1. I don't live near LI.

2. I couldn't get in even if I did. All the rattlers on FB had at LEAST 3 hyphenated last names. I only have a single lonely last name. Between that and driving a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero, they probably would stop me at the border anyhow.
 
So 20 B slips are up for reservations. New marina manager. They want you to call in on channel 9 and advise what slip you are looking to take. Dock master will tell you if it's reserved or if you can take it. New manager wants dock kids to grab your lines, hook up your water and electric. You pay for the day right then and there. Residents can now stay for up to 14 days. Years ago it was 17 days, but 12 the past few years. You need a resident sticker number to make a reservation.

Awesome new play set on west side designed after pirate ship. Free wifi.

What is your issue? You made two useless comments about the border, names, muffie. WTF? Your not from Long Island, so why even troll in our forum. Your a long time respected boated member and I mean no dis-respect, but seriously, we are trying to engage in a useful thread and your throwing darts!
 
If you saw the marina and the mixed bag crowd, you'd laugh at your comment.....as I did#128516;
 
As for non residents, I don't know. Same rules apply as far as I know. The new manager, a woman, has run quite a few private marinas from what I have heard. Some private clubs on the north shore, I was told Star island.

In years past, if you were a non resident, sometimes staff turned a blind eye if you stayed past a Friday and into the weekend. This is just me, but I get the impression that won't be the case anymore. I think things will be stricter and come 9 am Friday you will be told to be out by 11am.
 
So non residents can't come on a weekend? Sounds odd to me! If I wanted to come chances are it would be for a weekend.
 
Well that's the rub between residents and non residents. It is a town marina. Anyone can utilize the marina Monday through Friday morning. After that it's residents only on the weekend. Sometimes there is a 20 or 30 boat waiting list to get into the marina. It's beyond frustrating to a resident to be on the hook all day, then finally dink in to see friends only to see 2 dozen boats that hail from out of town. Quite frankly had they been stricter instead of sending mixed messages all these years we wouldn't be seeing this reservation system. I don't blame the non residents for staying as no one ever told them to leave half the time. The town expects a 16 year old kid to tell a 45 year old man with a boatload of kids he has to leave. Same way supermarkets expect a 16 year old girl to tell a grown man he has more than 12 items and to leave the express lane. It just doesn't happen.

I used to do the rat race to get a slip on a Friday afternoon. I stopped that. If I'm not at the beach by early Friday, I stay home and tool around the bay in the skiff. The thought of gassing up, loading up only to wait on the hook and wonder how long my dog can hold it in sends me over the edge.
