Looking to take a trip to block the 2nd or 3rd weekend in August... maybe leave a Friday morning and come home Sunday afternoon.

Anyone else going out there in August? Would prefer to follow someone out.

Likely stay at a marina the first time out (maybe on a mooring ball... don't know).

Anything to stay away from? Warnings? Words or caution/wisdom?

Thanks,

Yes have a great time and enjoy! watch the weather it can turn quick and if it's foggy when you want to leave simply wait for the fog to lift you really don't want to be out there in pea soup which is common.

We were talking about a block trip, but we are on south shore of long island.
May stop in greenport for a couple of nights first.

Rick, this is off topic, is your boat fixed? What was wrong with it?
Bill

Hi Bill.
Fixed. Bad starter. Put the new one in and it started right up. Not sure why I had an engine alarm but have yet to fully test. It's not sounding anymore. Thanks for asking...will update the other thread.

Haven't been on this site for a while. Is anyone going? We are going to Block Wed, 14 through Sunday. Getting a mooring, then a slip at Paynes for the remainder. Stop in for a libation.

We might. We're at duck island for the night. Assuming everything goes ok I might be able to convince her to go out to block

Rick maybe we see you. We are now planning to go Thursday.

I'm planning to go this Friday to Sunday, on a mooring or anchored out.

We are pushing our trip off until sometime in September.

Wonderful time there, great weather. Discovered Surf Hotel bar in the rear of the place, now open. What a gem. Dinghy was the most fun. Saw a dolphin.

Just a note about picking up a mooring in Block/New Harbor. Think about this one before you arrive. You are probably not going to find a mooring during the season in good weather at 3 PM or after. You may be able to find one more easily if you are there at 11 AM to noon, when people are leaving. Monday through Thursday is always easier. Easier still is to call the Harbormaster on Channel 12 and ask. They know the status of every rentable mooring.

Just saying... it isn't much fun to cruise around that mooring field (especially in the wind) looking for someone who looks like they are leaving.
