We all know(or should know) the importance of using marine quality parts on the engines in our boats. The risk of a spark is not a risk we want to take.So my question is,is it necessary for a regular old coil as well.No moving parts.Only risk of a spark is if something metallic shorts across the top.But this wouldn't be any different than if it was a mercruiser coil.Still gonna spark.
To get myself going the other day,I replaced a coil on one of my merc 4.3s with a coil from a auto shop.Look identical in every way.So much that they could be same manufacturer.Am I missing something?
