Barging From Seward to Nome Alaska

The barge has landed in Nome! Doug is hoping the boat gets offloaded tonight........

I was wondering what route it would take. I was thinking be river.

Ahhh...just in time for the prime Alaska boating season!! I hope he likes to boat in mukluks.

Here is the boat's new home; her new name is Dora Dee.....

They are planing to take her to Sledge Island for her first trip. The forecast is for sprinkles. That boat will feel right at home! That Delta Canvas will them nice and dry. A small catalytic heater will keep them toasty. I always enjoyed being anchored out in the rain........ sigh, I miss her.

Finally Doug and Janice got the boat from the barg company. [I think they were holding her for ransom!] They launched her and went out into the Bering Sea.

Dora Dee is now officially home in Nome. LOL

I was wondering if it is as dark in the picture above during the daytime so I found this web cam http://visitnomealaska.com/nome-web-cam.html

It has been interesting following Dora Dee's journey. Was the barge "sea lift" the only option to get her from Seward to Nome? Is there a road between Seward and Nome?

According to today's CoCo Times Oakley is getting a new park at Big Break that will have kayak rentals and a big scale model of the Delta.

Thanks for the webcam link!!!

There are two primary ways in or out of Nome: airplane or sea barge [summer only]. The rivers can also be used: by boat during the short summer and by cat trucks on the frozen ice during the winter; this doesn't work during spring or fall!!! Doug was originally going to boat from Fairbanks to Nome on the Yukon River, but they ran out of time and had to take the boat to Seward and barge it.

Thanks for the info about the kayak rentals coming to Big Break! Good news!!!!!

The barge had to sit outside of the harbor and wait for less chop before docking to offload.
