Barrier coat

I see a 2 part epoxy for barrier coat. Is it thick or can you roll it on?

I used Interlux 2000 Interprotect, a 2 part epoxy barrier coat. It is thinner than botom paint and rolls on extremely well and gives a very smooth surface to roll the anti-fouling onto.

Greg is correct. I would like to add that a sponge roller will give the smoothest surface. Get one that can handle solvents, as a cheap cardboard one will fall apart in the middle of the job.

Yup, I use the sponge roller for both the barrier coat and anti-fouling paint. I've also quit using 9" rollers and only use 4" rollers. The 9s are just too heavy with paint when you're laying flat on your back for a few hours!

I suggest a tyvek suit if you are doing that job. Very messy. Also a good supply of small rollers and brushes for the hard to paint areas. The newer 2000 has a long pot life but when I did mine a few years ago you did not have much time, so looking for those items after you started was not feasible.
